“Helen on 86th street” by Wendi Kaufman is about a 12 year old girl who tries out for a lead part in her school play. The play was about the Trojan War and when results rolled around she had gotten a smaller part, and was extremely jealous of Helen who made the main role. Vita was going to play inside the horse with a really cute boy. While Vita was jealous of Helen, Helen was jealous of Vita because the cute boy accompanying Vita during the play was the boy she had a major crush on. Throughout the play Vita was comparing her life to the one her father was living. Her dad left them unexpectedly when she was a little girl, and they still to this day don’t know where he is in the world. Vita says her dad is on an Odyssey and hopes one day he will return home. Over the years she has been writing him letters and putting them in a shoe box tied shut in her closet. I had some challenges in the first semester. I realized that it gets harder every year. I felt like ninth grade was a bit easier than this year. The final for English was easy. There were only two questions. We took a final for the novel, To Kill A Mockingbird. My goal is to have good grades, but also pass every class so that I don’t have to retake any. I want to be able to graduate on time. It always gets hard when almost end of the semester. That is the time when teachers start to give out more work. It’s a good idea but the same time bad. It can help bring grades up for some people. Most people are lazy so they rather not do it and fail the semester. My challenge was trying to focus with so many distractions in the way.…

Yes I do believe that the military will be excepting of a culture changes. The culture of the military is forever going to be changing. It may not be as great as desegregation, woman’s rights, or as great as the LGBT movement. The world is changing and if you do not change with it you fall behind. I think the military is more open to change now than it was back in war ll. I do believe the military we able to handle the culture changes that it counters in the present and future. Because of what we've learned with in our own country. This will benefit us when learning other cultures around the world. We have never fight a war in our own country. So we should be open to new cultures if we are going to be in other countries. So times I think that the United States thinks it’s the only country in the world and that other people do not matter. Life outside the states if very different and uncommon to us. If we do not know their culture then how are we to understand who they are, what they believe in and why are they are fighting. This will help the goal of the military if the soldiers are well educated in the culture that they are fighting against. In many of the videos we watched in class a number of times the soldiers were talking to the local people. This is where I think educating the soldiers really…

An obstacle I have encountered was my AP Calculus class. At the beginning of the course it was very difficult as my prior mathematics teacher had informed me. Besides having a big transition in the level of math, there was more to the class. I had failed the first test and was ready to drop the class. However, I was not ready to give up so I decided to keep the class and work harder. I dealt this this problem by taking more time out of my day to go over the material being learned. This meant I had to put in more time along with some of my peers that helped organize a small study group. This was an important factor in order to be successful in the class because the information being learned was difficult.…

Things that I have learned so far about high school is that the more you will realize who your friends are they will really start showing you their “true colors”. Furthermore balancing the workload is a very hard task because you have extra curriculum and other responsibilities dealing with your household. Being in high school you aren't going to get pampered or a teacher constantly coming to you, tell you that you have work due , missing assignments , being in class on time and keeping up with your grades . Also , I have learned that you shouldn't wait unit the last minute to turn work in or ask for extra credit , most certainty you shouldn't wait until the day before the due date to turn in your assignments . By having other classes that will be due…

The most important activity to me outside of school is my outreach program. This outreach program has been my rock and guide through high school. This program is designed to help under-represented high school students achieve their goals. This program helps students become successful and responsible through personal and academic enrichment, and I am one of those students. A lot of the focus is put on school and the main goal of getting into a good university. Even though it is much focused on school we also focus on the community and the environment. We do a variety of community service projects a month and even during the summer we are still doing community service. Two of the things we do very frequently is replant mangroves and beach clean-ups. Yes, school is important but this outreach program also teaches me that so is our community and our environment. This outreach program is so important to me because it has helped shape the type of person and student I am today. Before this program I didn’t care much about school but after going through some adversities and being in outreach my mindset changed. Outreach isn’t just a organization it’s a family and this family has been my support system all throughout high school. I personally felt like the outreach family was there for me even when my parents weren’t. This program has encouraged and given me tough love when it was needed. Being in outreach has pushed me to achieve goals that I never thought I could achieve. In the last four years I have learned a great amount of things about myself, life, the world, and how important my education is. I have learned a great sense of responsibility, ownership, and morals in outreach. The program has taught me to strive for personal and academic success. The biggest thing I have learned is that it is okay to ask for help. It doesn’t make me look weak to ask for help, it makes me stronger.…
