Helen Keller Informative Speech
What if all of us became blind and deaf? How would are lives differ now? Will society treat you differently? Helen Keller was a person that was treated differently due to her disabilities. She was considered to be rude because she didn't know how to act because of her disabilities. Today I will talk about Helen Keller, how she learned to communicate with others, and some achievements she obtained during her life. Helen Keller was born June 27, 1880 in Tuscumbia, Alabama,and died on June 1, 1968. When Helen was born, she was a healthy child. However, when she was 19 months old, she contracted an unknown illness that made her deaf and blind. This dramatic change made Helen’s life change in many ways. She began to act rude and wild to her family and other people. This was because she didn’t have a way to express her feelings. According to the website Biography, during her first few years after her disabilities, Helen was only able communicated with the cook’s daughter through sign language. However, this communication skill changed shortly after. She started to act up all the time no matter the situation. As a result, Helen’s family sent her to see a specialist, …show more content…
After their meet, Anne Sullivan became Helen’s teacher. Anne’s teaching approach was through obedience and love. Anne knew she could spell words, but was not able to connect them to the objects. She then decided to ask Helen’s parents for permission to take her live in a cottage nearby to improve her learning. In this cottage, Anne kept insisting to Helen to learn the hand signals and connect them to the objects. Until one day, Helen learned to spell the word “water” and “earth” and was able to connect them. Anne Sullivan succeed in teaching Helen by letting her touch the objects she wanted to spell. After this achievement, Helen was able to keep learning words and adapt to her parents

    At the age of 20, she showed great maturity in teaching Helen about the world around her. Thanks to Anne Sullivan’s help, Helen Keller learned nearly 600 words, most of her multiplication tables, and learned how to read Braille.
