Henry Galvez: What Are You Cultural Identity?

Do you know you cultural identity? Most likely you do. I didn?t know mine till i was in a class where i had to learn about it. I learned many things that i had no idea they had to do with culture. I am Henry Galvez, i was born in guatemala city we legally moved to Los Angeles California when i was about 3 years old. All these years i had no idea that things i do on my daily life had to do with my culture till now that i am learning about it. Some elements that define my culture would be christmas. I know everything celebrates christmas or something simular to it but, but for christmas my mom always makes a lot of food and most of my family shows up. The most people that had showed up was about 30. We celebrate ?noche buena? which is the the night of 24th of december, we all come together as a family we eat party and at 12:00am which is the 25th of december the presents get opened. Its crazy how
some families spend christmas just with the people they live with. I find it crazy because it is all defined by culture. Another element of culture that defines my culture is the day of the dead.
You might be thinking that we dress up as something or someone and celebrate for the dead, and that we have a big party. Well in guatemala city is different we dress up nice for the day if the dead we go to the cementary, we spend most of the day there. After all the families go out and eat. It mainly a day to remember all the people who have passed away and that aren?t with us anymore. That is how we celebrate the day of the dead in guatemala city. One of my favorite elements of of culture that define me is spring break we call it ?cemana santa?. Here they call it spring break, but to all the people in guatemala city is more than just a break. They close most of the streets and people start making this nice type of rug on the floor. It is so nice to see all the different types of colors and shapes and unique styles they put in every single one of the rugs. And on sunday when the week ends people from church carry Jesus all over they rugs. That is what goes on in guatemala city in spring
break. Culture is a great thing depending on your culture but there is bad things with culture that may cause conflict. conflict mostly happens when someone is or has tried to correct your culture. Everyone?s culture is different and unique in every way and when someone tries to make your culture like their may cause some type of conflict. One of the worst times that culture has created conflict is going to the wrong church. Depending on your culture and beliefs you go to different churches than others. Once my mom took one of her friends to a church. But the church that my mom took her to was not the one she originally went to. That caused some type of conflict between them. Have you ever noticed how culture is impacting you or the world around you? I have I?ve seen that on certain day or places you can?t do certain stuff. I affects me because depending on where I?m going or what i am doing i am limited to what i can and can?t do. This also includes school, when your in school their are many things you can or can?t do and things that you shouldn?t do. I like someone or something is controlling you. Does were some of the things I learned after a few weeks in that class about culture. It is impresive how you don?t know something and when you discover it like it changes the you, and the way you see stuff. Now that I know about culture I find it interesting the different types of things people do on their daily life?s that may define their culture. From this point foward everything i do and see i noticed that it defines culture in some type of way. Do you know about your culture? If you don?t know about your culture you should probably go and learn about it, their may be many things that impress you interest you but mainly things that you will learn about yourself from your culture.
