Heritage is a very important part in a person’s life and it defines a person as far as who they are and where they came from. It has been with us since and now it has still a big role in the way we live life. The story I am dong is “Everyday Use” by Alice Walker which is about two daughters one who is stuck up while the other has been scarred for life. In the story the author explores the role of heritage in the family and how it dates back to the Civil War. Also how heritage has helped Maggie realize the importance of these quilts her mother and great grandmother have sewn ever since. However while takes them as home decor and just to show off what they are rather than realize the true meaning behind what they mean. The key points are that it helps a person realize who they are. When Dee came in and said she was going to take this and that and when she found the quilts it gave Maggie annoyance. It is indicated in page 57 line 218 “Mama”, Wangero said sweet as a bird “ Can I have these old quilts?” I heard something fall in the kitchen, and a minute later the kitchen door slammed. “ Why don’t you take one or two of the others?” I asked. “These old things was just done by me and Big Dee from some tops your grandma pieced before she died”. Also Maggie realized the sentimental value behind these quilts more than Dee ever would. It is clearly indicated in page 58 line 238 “Maggie can’t appreciate these quilts!” she said “ She’d probably be backward enough to put them to everyday use.” “I reckon she would,” I said. “God knows I have been saving ‘em for long enough to use ‘em. I hope she will!.”In conclusion it shows that heritage defines a person and define who they are as a person in general. Also it creates a sense of passion for what you see in
