There are several large health systems in competition within the greater Houston area. The demographics of the region is ethically and racially diverse with 43.8% of the are being Hispanic. Over 30% of the population within Houston is without health insurance and Texas was one of the states to forego the Medicaid expansion of the ACA. The healthcare industry ranks Hermann Memorial 2nd in the region based on the quality of the services provided. Hermann Memorial ranks 3rd within the Houston area with the percent of the market served.

They had a goal to bring on at least 200 primary care physicians since 2011. In the 2015 annual report sent out by Hermann Memorial they have over 350 primary care physicians. They have the largest medical staff of over 5,500 in the Houston area according to the data available on the various websites.

The culture at Hermann Memorial appears to be focused on physicians and creating a culture driven by the bottom line and aligning the physicians to Hermann Memorial. This has lead Hermann Memorial to have high scores in Quality and has grown the physician base in the hospital system. However, Hermann Memorial has fallen behind in the competition when it comes to market share. They are still one of the top 3 choices they fall behind St. Luke’s and Houston Methodist in market share. The reviews of Hermann Memorial as a place to work are high and have had a 3-year trend in a positive direction.
