Hermaphrodite Case Study
“Is it a Boy, or a Girl?” Before enrolling in this course and learning about this disorder when I heard the term “hermaphrodite” I thought it mean that a girl liked a girl and a boy liked a boy. My initial impression of Cheryl was I thought she was a lesbian because she looked more masculine then feminine. But it ended up that she had more testosterone in her than estrogen. I thought Howard was just normal because he looked just like every other man, but his penis wasn’t shaped correctly and it was small because he has more estrogen in him than he should. Cheryl and Howard have the right to be upset because their parents made an important decision for them and maybe they didn’t want to be what they had chosen for them. Their parents should have waited till they were old enough to make a decision for themselves and let them decide. I disagree with gender assignment …show more content…
Also I wouldn’t want to be lying to by fiends because friendships are built on trust. When it comes to dating the challenges these individuals face is sexual intercourse with their partner. Also it may not be as easy for them to find a lover like it would be for any other person. Although hermaphrodites can reproduce some judgmental people might not be open minded enough to go through a real relationship with one. In my opinion homosexuality is something you are born with. I think that one's sexuality is with you for life. You may come to terms with it until later in life, or at all. But it is still there from birth. To be Homosexual is to be attracted to the same gender or and I don't believe one can "turn that off". Same goes for Heterosexual. I do believe one can be bisexual as a choice. But I don't think that one can choose to not be attracted to a gender they once liked. I think there are many people who experiment, who fall into the homo/hetero area of

That word is also used to describe the main character in the story Phoebe, a women who has mens chromosomes.…

Other paraphilias have a co-occurrence with transvestic fetishism (Lawrence, 2009). There is also co-occurrence of non-paraphilic hypersexuality (Langstrom, 2005). Lawrence reminds clinicians that non-homosexual male transgenderism can be understood to be an outgrowth of autogynephilia, however, the increased prevalence of the other paraphilic sexual interests in these men is predictable (2009). Predicting the possible presence of co-occurring paraphilias will give clinicians and psychiatrists information to develop a more effective treatment plan.…

The LGBTQ Spectrum and Community do everything they can in order to create awareness. One of the many things they have done is continuously explaining themselves and their world to others. Melissa Fabello, a sexuality educator based out of Philadelphia, wrote an article on Ravishly, a website about feminism, but was later published on the Huffington Post, explained the way her sexuality has changed over time and that it was never a “phase”, but understanding herself a different way. In the article she says, “I’m over here rooted firmly in my understanding of my experience, and you are insistent that I’m not — just because this is a new concept to you. I have lived with my sexually-fluid self for the entirety of my existence. That’s 30 years of experience with sexual fluidity. You just came upon this concept recently. I promise that I am less confused than you…

Next, I agree that sexual orientation is something an individual is most likely born with. I disagree that sexual orientation can be chosen, but it may be possible that it is learned. For example, because children learn from imitation, this may be possible if there is a model of homoseuality in the child’s life. In my opinion, I don’t think sexual orientation can be chosen because some homosexuals may get bullied by peers or even family members. There are most likely other obstacles that may come with an individual’s sexual orientation as well. With that being said, I don’t think a person would chose to be gay if they would be…

God may have not created a person to be homosexual or transgender but he did create everyone to make their own decisions. When a person grows up, they have the freedom of choice. A person can choose to move out, cut their hair and live upon the animals or even choose to kill him or herself. Therefore, a person can choose to be gay. I have a friend that is a lesbian. She has not always been that way. She told me that she could not continue to be hurt emotionally by males. My friend cut her hair off and started dressing like a boy. She has no signs of mental defect and she never admitted history of liking girls she made a decision to start liking females. This personal experience shows anybody can just choose to be what he or she wants to be.…

There has been a drastic change in the way people, scientists especially, view homosexuality. German neuroendocrinologist Günter Dörner’s attitude towards homosexuality, for example, changed from seeing it as being “a mental disorder with a biological cause” to a cluster of traits with a “natural non-pathological nature.”(5) Being homosexual is not a mental disorder. No research has proven an innate association between non-heterosexual orientations and psychopathology. Dr. Evelyn Hooker’s research in the 1950s found no difference between gay and straight men in respect to mental health. Homosexual behavior, like heterosexual behavior, is a normal part of human bonding and sexuality. Homosexuality isn’t something new or regional, it has been documented during many different time periods and within many different cultures. After a lot of research and clinical experience, all mainstream medical and mental health organizations in the U.S. have concluded that both heterosexuality and homosexuality are natural and normal parts of human…

Our gender roles have much to do with how our cultures believe they need to be. Often times we behave the way we are told to or how society expects us to. Parents are responsible for nurturing their children to be the gender they were born with. They do this by the toys they buy for their children, the clothes they dress them in and the way they teach them to act. (Rathus et al., 2011, pg. 168). This however does not guarantee that the child will relate to the gender they were born with. It is a scientific fact that homosexuals are not raised, they are born. Parents teach them how they want them to act, but they will not sexually relate to their gender.…

Gender identity disorder (GID) is now an obsolete term for those who are diagnosed transgendered individuals. The new and professionally approved term is now gender dysphoria. This revamped term dismissed the idea that transgender individuals have a “disorder,” implying some kind of mental instability. While socially, this new terminology brings a new light and approach to the transgender community, the medical aid associated with GID is also now in jeopardy due to the lack of it being an actual disease.…

Some people believe that asexuality is a myth, an “imaginary” sexuality coined by those who aren’t comfortable identifying with their “true” sexuality. Those who do identify as asexual tend to be shot down by these people. Simply stated by Dr. Gordon Hodson, “By deviating from the typical, average, or normal sexual interests, sexual minorities are considered substandard and thus easy targets for disdain and prejudice.” (Hodson). Up until 1948, the Kinsey scale aided the claim of the nonexistence of asexuality. The Kinsey scale put to terms is an official scale describing a person’s sexual experience to further pinpoint their sexuality. And up until 1948, asexuality had not even been a consideration of this scale. This supports the claims that asexuality is simply a modern term concocted by those not wanting to fit into the already designated scale. And while some do accept the term, they do so for an entirely different reason, believing it to be some type of disorder. It is known that “‘Hypoactive sexual desire’ is listed in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders” (Westphal) It is considered a disorder for those who are in distress because of their lack of sexual attraction. However, what it does not cover are those who are happy and healthy despite their sexual…
