Hernando cortes was a man of power and adventure he was born in 1485 in spain. When he was 14 he was sent away to get a better education he studied latin and law. Three years later he sailed to what is now known as Haiti. He worked with the governor of Haiti to organized a conquest of Cuba. He was rewarded with land and slaves. After Diego Velazquez conquered Cuba he made Cortes one of his top ranking officials. Then he sailed into Veracruz , another town and took it by force. He then tried to meet with the Montezuma the Aztec king but he refused. Then Velasquez betrayed Cortes and sent men to attack Cortes. After a long battle Cortes came out the champion. Then the Aztecs tried to please Cortes by giving him gold and other treasures
