Hernando Tellez Symbolism

Not only does the the theme relate with the characters it is also, developed throughout the short story by symbolism. The author Hernando Tellez uses symbolism especially with the heat constantly mentioned throughout the story. In the beginning the captain comes and says “It’s hot as the devil, I want a shave.” (Tellez 1) illustrates the heat influenced the captain to come into the barber shop in the first place. Later in the story when the barber is near the “right near the great vein.” (Tellez 3) he notices “How hot it is!
