n the essay entitled "Who killed Benny Paret? the author, Norman Cousins, writes about the dangers that come with the sport of boxing. He especially talks about a match that resulted in the death of a boxer named Benny Paret. Cousins argues that boxing is just a show of violence and that boxers put themselves in the ring just for the simple purpose of entertaining a crowd. The crowds of people that attend these matches don't go to see the sport of boxing, but merely the brutality of a knock out.…

Once upon a time, there was a goddess named Jasmine. She rose from the lands of Magic City. She was the main god. She ran Magic City. She had two children and a magical Lady Bug that could talk. Even though Jasmine looked like the modern everyday woman, she wasn’t. She had powers that she passed down to her children Jaidyn and Julanii. Julanii was only a baby. But Jaidyn was a teenager, 16 to be exact. The family lived in Magic City for years. But Jasmine thought it was time for them to go out in the “real” world. So they moved to Maryland. Jaidyn was enrolled into Fairmont Heights High School. But there was a specific reason why Jasmine wanted to move. She wanted to send Jaidyn on a quest of helping and saving people in any kind of danger. She wanted to test her superhero qualities. Jaidyn had many of them. She had the ability to fly, read people’s minds, invisibility, and she had super speed. Her first day of school went by, and she actually made a lot of new friends. As weeks went by Jaidyn began to love her new life. Until one day, her superhero abilities were tested. She was walking home after school. She walked passed an alley to get to her house. When suddenly she heard a female’s scream and a man yelled “Give me the money!” Jaidyn knew what she had to do, she had to help her. But she didn’t want to be seen. All she had to protect her identity was a ski mask in her book bag. Slowly she put it on and flew to the scene. The man released the woman from his arms and she ran out of the alley. Jaidyn fought off the criminal, tied him up, and called the cops. When the police arrived they praised Jaidyn for her good work and took the man too jail. Jaidyn was the talk of the town since that day. But no one really knew who she was. All they saw her as was a girl in a ski mask. She continued to keep her identity as a secret. When Jaidyn and her family were watching the news one day, she saw that they were talking about “The girl in the ski mask”. It’s not much she…

Everyone has a different definition of a hero. Mine is a person who has impacted my life, or lives in general. They are selfless and genuine people who care about others more than themselves. A hero has no gender, size, or age. Anyone is capable of being a hero, but it’s very rare to find someone who possesses all of the qualities. People like a war veteran, a public figure, or an everyday person are all people who fit my definition of a hero. Irena Sendler, Tyler Joseph, and my mom are prime examples of what I think a hero is and should…

A hero can be delivered to the world in numerous ways. One may be that they do something that represents them as a hero. Another could be that they serve as a role model for millions of people. However way they appear to the public they are a hero. One hero in particular is Oprah Gail Winfrey, also known as Oprah Winfrey and “one of the most powerful and wealthy people in show business,” (bio.). She exemplifies the characteristics of an epic hero because of meeting and overcoming demons and monsters, being ruthless to her enemies, and her abilities to excel in skill, strength, and courage. Every epic hero must overcome the toughest obstacles to reach they’re goals.…

The tale of an epic hero unlike any other thrives on in Beowulf, who is a powerful warrior and leader. By definition, a hero is typically a man who is greatly admired or idealized for their noble, courageous and notable qualities, exceptional achievements and brave feats. Beowulf, warrior of Geatland and King of the Swedes, battles monsters and accomplishes, no doubt, heroic deeds in this centuries-old text. In this essay, I argue the qualities of a true hero and that Beowulf possesses each of these and utilizes them in this ancient and epic tale.…

Celebration of Discipline, by Richard J. Foster, is a comprehensive guide to spiritual disciplines. In this book, Foster addresses twelve main ones (meditation, prayer, fasting, study, simplicity, solitude, submission, service, confession, worship, guidance, and celebration), and shows how we can implement them in our lives. It is only through spiritual practices that we can move from superficial living into deeper lives. To balance our inward and outward lives and overcome our sin, we must first receive the inner righteousness which is a grace given from God. When we allow the Disciplines into daily practices, they allow God to come inside and bring an abundance of God into our lives. Overall, Celebration of Discipline is a true book every Christian ought to read. After having read this book, I am motivated to practice the spiritual discipline of prayer and fasting. According to Foster, prayer is very important because it takes us into perpetual communion with the Father and it is the central avenue for personal examination and change. I chose prayer because prayer was such a big part of my life and it brings positive outpourings in my life. Constant prayer allows me to get closer to God and love the people around me more. Without prayer, I have less tolerance for those I find hard to love, more concern with earthly things, feelings of disconnect with God that I love. In my life, I have never practiced fasting because of my health issues and disbelief in its power. However, Foster encourages me to pursue it as it can bring spiritual breakthroughs that will not happen in any other way. Focusing on those two disciplines, I hope that God can bring spiritual transformation in my life and help me find the true path to spiritual growth. Y, dXiJ(x( I_TS 1EZBmU/xYy5g/GMGeD3Vqq8K)fw9…
