A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself…
To allow Odysseus to get into his home without being recognized Athena disguises him as a beggar, and then as his plan continues he begins to slaughter the suitors. If Athena had not helped Odysseus by causing the suitors to miss their target each time they attempted to fire back at him, then he would have surely been dead fighting against so many puissant men. Without her constant help Odysseus would have never persevered through these tasks he so brashly went through, including this one. Making Athena the true hero of this story.…
A hero is a person, typically a man, who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. This hero can be a family member, friend, or a stranger, pretty much anyone. It just depends on how you think about them compared to the definition of a hero. A hero could be a celebrity, mentor, or role model, but what’s the difference? A celebrity could be a hero because there famous and you have looked up to them since you were young. Your hero could be a mentor; a mentor is a person or friend who guides a less experienced person by building trust and modeling positive…
Heroes are courageous, respectable people who are not selfish. Edith Hamilton talked Greek mythology heroes in the book Mythology. In that book, one of the true heroes was Theseus. Like many heroes Theseus went on a quest and killed a monster and people respected for his braveness. Also, like other heroes he had a tragic death. For these reasons Theseus was definitely a epic hero.…
The word hero has multiple origins one of the most popular origins is the greek definition which referred to a demigod. A demigod is a being that is half human and half god.…
On the subject of heroism, Maya Angelou once wrote that “I think a hero is any person really intent on making this a better place for all people” (Angelou). The general picture that comes to mind when the word “hero” is said is the idea of Superman or Wonder Woman; however, a true hero is anyone who tries to make their world a better place. Odysseus, the hero in Homer’s epic poem The Odyssey, fought in the Trojan War and embarked on a ten year journey to return to his kingdom, Ithaca. During his quest to return home, he encounters many supernatural forces that show both his heroic, and not so heroic actions. He faces countless challenges, meets new people, and has to make sacrifices for the overall benefit of his crew (Bowler and Homer 645-705).…
The term "hero" comes from the ancient Greeks. For them, a hero was a mortal who had done something so far beyond the normal scope of human experience that he left an immortal memory behind him when he died, and thus received worship like that due the gods. Many of these first heroes were great benefactors of humankind: Hercules, the monster killer; Asclepius, the first doctor; Dionysus, the creator of Greek fraternities. But people who had committed unthinkable crimes were also called heroes; Oedipus and Medea, for example, received divine worship after their deaths as well. Originally, heroes were not necessarily good, but they were always extraordinary; to be a hero was to expand people's sense of what was possible for a human being.…
Heroes are given their titles according to their bravery, but their traits have an impact on that. In the epic poem, the Odyssey, the hero undergoes several trials and loses many friends along the way. Homer used the Odyssey to tell the tale of an epic hero, and Odysseus’s traits prove him to be a hero.…
What is a hero? A hero is someone that helps others, that is selfless, kind, and many more things. A perfect example of a hero is Odysseus from the Odyssey. Odysseus has many characteristic that a hero would have. He was very clever. He was always coming up with unique ways to get through obstacle and to get what we wanted. One example of this is when he stabbed the cyclops in the eye while it was sleeping. Odysseus is also very caring. He would always care for his crew even they weren’t always the best crew or the smartest. He is also very strong. When he returned home he had to fight off all of the suitors for his wife so that he could prove to his wife that we was Odysseus and that he had returned from his very long journey. There are more…

Scholarships. The Holy Grail of college funds. A chance to not only escape the adult boogeyman of student debt, but possiblly even put some of that saved-up college money towards your first apartment. And as more and more young women enter higher education, there should be some scholarships that can be claimed exclusively by women, right? This is in fact, true, but the largest provider of scholarships exclusively for women may just surprise you. Is it the Society of Women Engineers? Or maybe the Jeanette Rankin Women’s Scholarship Fund? Unfortunately, it is neither of these. The largest provider of exclusively female scholarships is… the Miss America Organization. Now I hesitate to call…
A hero is a person who has super powers or can do things normal people could not do. A hero is strong, smart and ladies call them “attractive”. A long time ago, a poet named Homer had written an epic poem called “The Odyssey”. In “The Odyssey”, there is a person with these traits named Odysseus. Odysseus goes through adventures for a long time trying to get home. Odysseus is an epic hero…
A hero is someone who cares about other people's lives than their own. Many people can call themselves a hero but don’t act like a hero. For example, in the book The Odyssey by Homer, the main character Odysseus is sailing with his men after the Trojan War, and he sees himself as a hero. On his way home from the battle a terrible storm had hit that was made by Zeus, the god of all gods, and his way home was turned into an adventure. Odysseus’ actions on the adventure makes his a very disrespectful guy, that caused his own imprisonment because he invaded Polyphemus’ cave and stayed, when he didn’t tell his men about Scylla and Charybdis when they were approaching them, and the fact that he let his men eat the sun god’s, Helios’, cattle.…
What makes a hero? Saving someone’s life perhaps, or is it just being noble and caring for the poor like Robin Hood did. Most people who don’t actually take the time to read about or study mythology believe that a hero in mythology is a god or a supernatural most of the time. But that is not the case. There are some that can be called a demigod, these are ones that even though half god are also mostly human. A demigod could have different meaning, one being as previously mentioned, which is a being with partial or lesser divine status such as a minor deity, the offspring of a god and a mortal but it can also mean a man who is greatly admired or respected which is what both of my heroic mythology figures have had.…
