ACTING coach Mkhuphali Masuku was a notable absentee as Premiership giants CAPS United got their preparations for the 2013 season underway on a low key at the National Sports Stadium yesterday.

Masuku, thrust into the hot seat following the 10-yer-ban imposed by Zifa on Taurai Mangwiro over the Asiagate scam, had been expected to conduct business from Day One of proceedings at the club.

But Makepekepe who regrouped after a lengthy break following a poor 2012 season in which they finished 10th on the 16-team table, had to make do without Masuku as the former Highlanders mentor was reported to be still on his way from his hometown in Bulawayo.

CAPS United are also still eagerly awaiting the outcome of the appeal against Mangwiro’s lengthy ban with the club’s chiefs insisting they would not rush into making a substantive appointment until their coach has had a chance to protest his suspension.

The 2005 champions have also indicated that they would not be very active on the transfer market to chase for big names as they have resolved to build their 2013 campaign on a junior policy.

In Masuku and Mangwiro’s absence, goalkeepers’ trainer Brenna Msiska took charge of the start of the CAPS United pre-season training. The only notable new faces at CAPS United’s first workout were the former Monomotapa pair of Tawanda Nyamandwe and Joseph Mutambiranwa.

CAPS United, however, also had new acquisitions — Dominic Chungwa, Steven Makatuka and goalkeeper London Zulu — getting down to business with their new club while Menard Mupera, who appears headed for the Green Machine this year, was also in attendance.

Chungwa, a former Hippo Valley player, is not new to Harare clubs having played for the now defunct Eagles and is set to

Training is planned to meet the needs of the learners so all outcomes are met in the time allowed. My role as a trainer is to devise a structured plan of physical intervention techniques and methods that are required by the learner’s organisation. Handouts are designed around the techniques taught and the legalities of physical intervention. It is paramount that I am aware and comply with all legislation relevant to physical intervention training. The induction is done with the learners in a circle, by doing this everyone is facing each other and are all equal and no learner is excluded, I include myself within the circle, and from time to time change position, so there is no favouritism. I introduce myself and explain my role as a trainer, and get the learners to introduce themselves to each other. I explain the course content; I go through health and safety procedures, the environment such as break/lunch times, the plan of the training and the specified time period. I introduce an ice breaker at the start of the warm up exercises, as most learners can feel embarrassed, but it brings fun and this makes the learners become a group.…

American sports are American because they are a reflection of societal values and cultural norms during the rise of an industrializing America. These recreational activities became popular economic enterprises with specializing labor roles, set rules comparable to the standard workplace protocol in other industries at the time, and were intentionally “civilized” in such a way that they became more profitable for those in charge. This civilizing also meant a specialization of labor as many athletes became more professional with irreplaceable skills. American sports in the late 19th century are reflective of greater historical trends regarding industrialization. American sports became American over the late 19th century by gradually integrating rising class values into the creation of sporting rules and practice. The urban and extensively diverse atmosphere in which popular sports developed necessitated “Americanizing” them in such a way that sporting rules became cohesive with the exclusive class values of participants so that they opposed non-native culture and benefitted the social group of the rule-makers. “American” sports are competitive, and thus leaving something to be gained, were inherently both profitable and popular, thus presenting fine arena’s for a commodification of the participants and practices by a leisure class.…

Some of the items that I believe a Training Manager is responsible for that may or may not be widely known would be that they need to insure that the best training is being given to each MIT or Manager that they train. If there is a better way to teach something then it is their responsibility to train that way. Not everyone learns the same way, some people are more hands on than others and some people you need to watch a lot more and stand right next to them a lot longer than others. This is because people learn at different paces and a good training manager would be able to see this in an individual and be able to determine what route of training would be best for them.…
