Hidden Communication In The Hunger Games There are many hidden meanings in shows and movies, but the movie I first thought of when thinking of forms of communication within a movie or book was The Hunger Games. A brief explanation of The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins is a dystopian future where twelve districts have to compete in an annual “Hunger Games”. Twenty-four “tributes” are chosen for the games, two from each district; one of the tributes is a man and then one has to be a woman. This stage of the game is called the reaping. The film follows a girl named Katniss Everdeen who is a member of District Twelve. This is the poorest District within the movie. Within the movie, it becomes a form of hope for the people within the Dyspion society who wish for a better future. The Mockingjay is a symbol of hope. Communication is portrayed in The Hunger Games through the Mockingjay symbol. One of the specific times the Mockingjay pin shows a form of identity and defiance. When Katniss wears the pin in the tribute parade. Katniss’s outfit subtly advertises the Mockingjay in her outfit and at the time this parade is meant for the public to carry some sort of entertainment but, the outfit of Katniss has a deeper meaning and will slowly represent a symbol of hope for the people of this crooked dystopian government. Everyone who sees the symbol of Katniss’s outfit understands that she stands for rebellion. This is only understood by people who are against the rebellion and wish to fight back against the government. A second form of communication regarding the Mockingjay pin yet again is when Katniss wears the pin into the dome of The Hunger Games. The dome of the games is streamed across every district for everyone to see. During the widely streamed games, you can see a stubble pin that is embedded in Katniss’s
