High School Career Research Paper
High school has been an unyielding path. These four years of my high school career have had some positive and even some negative conflicts. Initially, I was very naive and I did not put much effort into school. My grades had dropped at a point where I was having some difficulty to bring them back up, mainly because I was never too strong in subjects such as math or English. But that was an issue that I had to face by worrying less and concentrating more. However, throughout these four years of high school I have improved my ability to learn and also have identified the creative and thoughtful side of me and with these skills I have given back to my community by making it cleaner and more efficient for the next generation. Thankfully, with

When I first arrived at high school, I was extremely nervous. The school was huge and there was not a familiar face in site. Although I was nervous, staff and students did their best to create a positive learning environment. Going into my sophomore year, I received the same positive energy from the staff and my peers. My guidance counselor, Ms. Hunter, helped me to prepare and offered me the opportunity to enroll in…

I went to St. Michael School from Kindergarten through Eighth grade, so when it came time to leave for high school, I was not excited for the change. St. Michael was especially small in regards to student population. We had just under three hundred students split between all nine grades. That left roughly twenty to thirty kids per class. I was extremely used too this small environment and not exactly looking forward to the terrors of high school towering over me nor the thought of being lost in the sea of students. Over the years I was extremely imbedded in my academics. I had straight A’s for my entire time at St. Michael. I received the academic achievement award at Eighth grade promotion for having the highest GPA in my class. Despite this, I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to live up…

The career that I chose to research was Middle School Education and Teaching. I chose this career because I have always liked going and being at school, I’ve always liked being able to learn new things, and be able to work and be with people every day. A teacher is an educator who provides education for students. Being a teacher can help students in many ways even out of the classroom. A middle school teacher normally teaches the grades sixth to eighth. The reason there is a middle school is to get the students prepared for harder classes in high school. A few things that a teacher does is prepare lessons, quizzes, and tests over the material that they learned. They can teach subjects anywhere from science, math, english, spanish, and any other courses that the school provides. Teachers prepare report cards, talk with the student's parents if needed. They also have to enforce rules and regulations and make sure all students follow them. Teachers don’t just teach they help students with their personal lives and help them grow up to be a better person in the world. Teachers provide and educate students on all core subjects and with learning life skills. A teacher’s work environment is normally…

John Krumboltz once said, “You have control over your own actions and how you think about the events that impact your life. None us can control the outcomes, but your actions can increase the probability that desired outcomes will occur. There are no guarantees in life. The only guarantee is that doing nothing will get you nowhere.” (Krumboltz, 46). In this short exert from his book titled Luck is no Accident, 10 Ways to get More out of Work and Life, Krumbolz discusses the importance of making the most out of opportunities that may seem little or pointless, and that happiness doesn’t depend on any external conditions, but instead, it is governed by our mental attitude. Throughout my life, I have only had a few jobs because I didn’t start working until I was almost 18, but I have always strived to have the best attitude when working. My first job ever was at Coldstone Creamery, and there were many times that I had to deal with people that were rude and inconsiderate. Krumbolz talks about controlling what you can, and letting go of what you can’t, which is exactly what I tried doing when working there and dealing with these kinds of people.…

When I first stepped into Anderson High School as a freshman, I was exceedingly confident in myself. I played sports, had gotten good grades, and planned to have an amazing high school career. Freshman and sophomore year were a breeze. If I am being straightforward, I did not focus much on my schoolwork. I did what was required of me and got good grades, but I did not go above and beyond. I had always been told by upperclassman, “It only gets harder from here. Enjoy it while you can.” Now I realize what that means.…

As I got older and got into high school, things got really ugly my freshman year. Hanging out with the wrong crowd changed my whole perspective on school and how I should apply my knowledge to school work. I can honestly say that my highest grade was probably a C out of the whole year. The beginning of my life changing didn’t take place till my sophomore year when I met my older cousin who decided to be hard on me in school. Part of that was him keeping me into football and other sports he thought I would be good in. It wasn’t till junior year in high school where I really took football…

I’ve always been a fairly lax individual, comprehending academic material rather quickly. Because I wasn’t being posed any academic challenge and was stagnating in progress in primary school, I was granted the opportunity to jump an entire school year ahead, circumventing my 5th grade school year, and going straight to 6th. Even then, I remained at the top of my class. Starting in my freshman year, I wanted to push my luck, and began participating in extracurricular events and activities - more specifically, the performing arts of choir and theatre. Balancing school, extracurricular activities, sleep, and my social life was rather easy in my first two years of high school. I would come to find out that it wouldn’t all be a breeze.…

For the next hour and a half the teacher and I had a talk that changed my view of school for a while and rejuvenated my work ethic during that school year and has stuck with me ever since. For years I have been told countless times that my work ethic in school does not match up with my abilities, nor does it match up with my diligence in other activities. Unfortunately, my grade point average and the attractiveness of my transcript have suffered. It took three years to figure out an easy rhythm for school work and my senior year has turned out to be the least stressful year, despite an increase in school work and other responsibilities such as clubs and a job. The best lessons that high school taught me were instilled through sports and clubs; the most important being, I thrive through social interaction. High school sports have allowed me to transform from a terribly timid young child into a confident young woman as I move on to…

Throughout my high school career I have always held a job and have always tried my hardest to help other people in any way possible. In the middle of my freshman year at Haverford High School I received a job at a restaurant called Primavera, here i worked as a hostess two times a week. I later moved on to work at a small business called The Head Nut towards the end of my sophomore year, and have worked there ever since. At The Head Nut I work at least 22 hours per week, this has taught me extremely important lessons about how to manage my school work while still maintaining time for work, family, friends and any other activity I do outside of school. In addition to working so often I have also volunteered several times with my mom at a soup…
