25 October 2013 High School Dropouts Until the government stops enabling high school dropouts with public assistance the rate will continue to increase; the government should require stipulations. Students who drop out of high school lose more and regret what they have done. They go through a lot of challenges and cost the economy lots of money. Dropping out of school will never be acceptable or justified. When this occurs, high school dropouts are only stealing valuable information from themselves. Dropping out of high school does not help students gain anything.
Public assistance is government benefits provided to the needy, usually in the form of cash or vouchers (www.dpw.state.pa.us). After dropping out of high school a student can go to a program; the program helps the dropout find a job and get them on public assistance (www.files.eric.ed.gov). How long does a person have to wait to get into the program after dropping out? A person can receive benefits immediately if they have low income, children in public schools or if the person attends one of the government programs for it (www.welfareinfo.org). Herbert discusses how most people feel embarrassed when they are applying, it’s a system set up with the intent of providing benefits to impoverished American’s; they can apply different governmental programs such as food stamps, Medicaid, HUD homes, and vouchers (www.everydaylife.globalpost.com). High school dropouts are more likely to be teen parents and turn to public assistance for help (www.iris.lib.neuedu). Once someone receives public assistance how long can they stay on it?
