that, “Half of the 6 billion tons of coal burned globally each year is burned in China.” He wastes no time and presents the data that China depends heavily on coal, a nonrenewable natural resource. Additionally, he continues his piece as he introduces another author, James Fallows, to solidify his point that China has reached the point where demand for coal is so high that the Chinese government has turned to improving public transportation so that reaching coal will be easier to access.
Page 17 Activity: Dwight D Eisenhower appeals to logos through provoking hope and remembrance of family.
In the line, “The eyes of the world are upon you,” Eisenhower evokes a sense of purpose as the men are about to risk their lives for their home and country. These men are scared and the line gives the men the courage to stay strong. Additionally, it also hits home as it motivates the men by having them think about the future safety of their wives and children. Although the men fear losing their lives, it allows for the men to know that in the event that they die, they will not be forgotten and that they meaningfully contributed to advancing the
country.
