She relates wearing the hijab the covering from the head-to-toe to the image of an animal in a cage. She gives the example of assuming the animal is free so it doesn’t have to deal with the harsh actuality of its real habitat. She says that when women wear the hijab they are allowing themselves to hide themselves and to make them the reason as to why other people look at them. Catherine stated that the hijab is not the way for women to take control of their bodies as they are listening to the orders of a man who cannot control his own sexual desires and frustrations. Muslim women are considered to be a man’s property and they feel the need to protect their woman. In the Western countries, even if a woman is raped while wearing a hijab, they suffer and believe that their communities will no longer accept them even though it isn’t their fault. The hijab is a way of making a woman “feel” as if they are in control of their body when it is the complete opposite.
