In Hip Hop the rappers tend to focus on materialism things such as money and chains. Hip Hop sends many messages to men. The men of hip hop tend to be homophobic and intolerable to of other sexualities, gender identity, and race because they are insecure with themselves and
feel the need to bash others to feel secure. In the documentary “Hip-Hop: Beyond Beats and Rhymes” it talks about how ironic it is in hip hop these rappers are known to be homophobic while executing homoerotic messages. The men of rap music tend to rap with violence and braggadocio. These men think that they need to be tough and violent to earn respect.
Women often too expect too much from men, they expect all men to be super masculine and not overly emotional. These expectations come from years and years of masculine stereotypes. In the documentary “Tough Guys” I learned that men as well as women have been taught all their lives that being a real man involves being strong, emotionless, execute remorseless violence, and the domination of females, Most men feel like if they act in any feminine way at all they will jeopardize their manhood and masculinity.
The expectation of men and young boys and their relationship with their masculinity should not be a norm or mainstream. We should not stereotype men into a box of masculinity. I am able to understand and sympathize the root of some men’s psychological problems and insecurities.
