In American society today, we can’t go anywhere, watch or do anything without exposure to some type of advertisement. Companies spend millions of dollars in efforts to reach us as consumers. They use manipulative messages and deliver underlying promises to get us to buy their product. Advertisements reflect the political, economic, and social environment of their time. As consumers, it is important that we are able to deconstruct those advertisements and understand the underlying message that they are trying to send to us.…

Fashion is extremely important in the world; it portrays modern life. Fashion is an old thing and creates trends that succor individuals to keep their own identity. When a new fashion line is ready to be launched, a fashion campaign is created to raise awareness. Major houses hold events that involve top models, photographers, and production houses. However, sometimes advertisements for clothing lines really go too far; they cause offense, exhibit violence and degrade woman. Dolce and Gabbana’s 2007 ready to wear collection is a perfect example of this.…

By far, the most popular and common motif displayed within perfume advertising is that of a female model. Although it can be argued that there are more perfumes and fragrances for women, amongst most brands, and therefore more adverts for female perfumes in general, the image of woman is exploited in perfume advertising, with female nakedness becoming increasingly more common, significantly more than the image of men. ‘The typical image of the sensuous women enticingly or definitely addressing the viewer continues to be repeatedly employed in contemporary advertising, assuming the form of an ‘agent provocateur’, whose main function in ads is that of eliciting the desired emotional response in the viewer’. With the rapid development of new…

I agree with you that even though documentation of meeting, disciplining, and/or the hiring process is a timely constraint on supervisors and managers at times it can be very beneficially in the long run. Since disparate treatment is considered to be the most common form of intentional discrimination it still is not easy to prove because of lack of evidence (Lidge, 2011). In your example you provided, it seems that you had the proper documentation to prove your reasoning against what could have been considered age discrimination. If a situation ever was to come about with age the employer may have to demonstrate that the policy is job related and consistent with business necessity, which it seems you were able to do (Lidge,…

Everywhere you look these days you see a billboard or advertisement selling or promoting a product, it’s inevitable. You get in your car to go somewhere and look out the window and you are surrounded by them or you open a magazine and every other page is an ad promoting something. You walk into a store or public place and at every turn there is something staring you in the face. Since billboards are so big and visible from a distance they are hard to miss. It’s basically shoved in our faces without us having a choice, but to look and glance at it. Since we are exposed to this and this is something that everyone goes through on a daily basis, we tend to ignore a lot of it until something catchy or interesting catches your eye. Advertisements make things more appealing and make us more inclined to buy products. With the amount of competitors out there selling the same products, advertisement companies try and beat them out by coming up with attention getting ads. Advertisements these days seeming have more and more sexual content in them making them borderline inappropriate to fully inappropriate and unnecessary. This can be a negative effect on the public causing image issues and men and women being degraded. By using sexual innuendos and images, advertising companies are catching the attention of the public in bad and negative ways.…

For my Final Project, I have chosen to do an advertising campaign for the World Rugby Shop (www.worldrugbyshop.com), a company that specializes in selling Rugby gear, equipment, clothing, etc. My focus group will be children; more specifically pre teens aged 7-12. Although this is a continuing controversy within the world of marketing, I feel it is an extremely important and beneficial market to tap into for two reasons: (1) children are the future. If we get them involved with Rugby early on, it will only grow. (2) Children make up for an immense level of spending and buying power- equally out to be over $20 billion annually. If we can tap into that, then it will only ensure the survival of both the sport and our business. The main ploy in advertising to kids, for us, is to just create brand awareness- we simply want to show them what Rugby has to offer and, if it’s something they are interested in, then by all means, we are here to suffice their every want and need.…
