His Coy Mistress
The poem To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell in my opinion, is just another story where a man attempts to manipulate a woman in order to seduce her and take her virginity. The unnamed man pining over this female is clearly an extremely desperate person, who will do anything to be the one to take it from her. Even though she has made it clear she is not interested in losing her virginity to him, he still continues to beg. When this story was written, the connotation that surrounds the word mistress was not negative. It was seen as a partner, or a companion. It had a much more positive connotation than it does now, which is normally used to describe a woman who is having an affair with another male. She was just a shy woman, which he wanted as a partner. However the unnamed person was in all honesty, a very manipulative person …show more content…
He explains how he would love her in several different ways if he had the time. He writes about how he would compliment her and admire her if he had the time, and states that he would focus on "each part" of her. However, then he says "Time's winged chariot hurrying near," which equates to him saying, but since time is running out, I can't love you, or at least treat you with the respect you

The objective of this study was to figure out how different light colors affected the rate of photosynthesis in spinach leaves. This was done by taking leaf disks, removing the CO2 and sinking them in beakers. One beaker filled with regular water, the other filled with a mixture of water and sodium bicarbonate. The beakers were then placed in front of the light sources and the amount of disks floating was recorded every minute. In our study the disks exposed to the red light started to float sooner than the…

Love is presented in ‘In Paris With You’ through repetition as ‘Paris’ and the mantra ‘In Paris with you’ is repeated more than 10 times; this shows that the speaker wishes to focus solely on the present and the time that he is sharing with his lover in that moment. Similarly, in ‘to his coy mistress’ the present is also a point of convergence as he is urging his mistress to make the most of life and live in the moment (by sleeping with him) because life is short. The poet uses time references to convey how life is going so fast when he says that if they had the time he would ‘love you ten years before the flood’ and ‘hundred years should go to praise thine eyes’ – he uses hyperbolic flattery to persuade his mistress to be with him intimately.…

    To The Virgins Analysis

    • 1356 Words

In my opinion, i think the authors are the ones who want the love and sex. For example, the poem To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time the speaker is Robert Herrick and in the poem To his Coy Mistress the speaker is Andrew Marvell. Although in To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time, the speaker is much more creepy and weird. I feel like he is a older man, he is intelligent, and I would guess that his emotional state would be that he is jealous. In the poem To His Coy Mistress i think the author is a reasonable man, he is middle aged, and his emotional state is based around love and desire of wanting a beautiful…

Throughout history kings, emperors, and other aristocracy have always had their mistresses, concubines, and maybe even multiple wives, but the late 17th century and the 18th and 19th centuries to the beginning of the 20th century, was the age of the courtesan. A courtesan is defined as a woman who engages in sexual intercourse for payment; a lady of easy virtue. (2003. In Roget & apos;s II The New Thesaurus.) Throughout history their main association has been as the companions of royalty or an individual in high standing in a royal court. They were often very well educated, well versed and very well dressed women, and because of their position at court wielded social as well as political power. Some did this better than others, which could either lead to great success and a lifetime of being taken care of or contribute to their and their benefactors downfall.…

It's a bit ironic that he goes out with other women, yet he is unable to see the lover right in front of him. In the first stanza, eager lips and rapturous eyed depict the attraction the speaker feels from the man. A thousand little deaths shows the man's romantic tales with other women breaks her heart. You can find the simile from the…

In the lover’s song, he/she applies repetition to stress that the love between one another will never cease. The lover uses multiple literary devices in his/her song, one of which includes a hyperbole that indicates that their love will end when a river jumps over a mountain. Along with the hyperbole, the lover personifies the salmon and continues to highlight the eternal love between the lover and his/her beloved in this line, “And the salmon sing in the street,” (line 12) this exhibits scenarios that are unlikely to occur. Additionally, the lover continues to emphasize their everlasting love with his/her diction in the song, “I’ll love you till the ocean is folded and hung up to dry.” (lines 13 &…

The concept that I found most important in Module 5 was the trust element of the Right to Lead Assessment Model. The main reason I find this concept to be crucial to how to lead people is simple, without trust, leadership does not exist. If your people do not trust you, how can they be expected to stand by your decisions? For example, when I was a Senior Airman at my last duty station, my supervisor would always get outraged with me when I corrected him on certain job specific tasks that he was doing incorrectly. This made me less likely to approach him. It also made me worry that he was inefficient in some of the new tasks that he was training me to do. I was apprehensive about taking advice from him which caused me to progress slowly…

Marvell strongly returns to the romantic imagery using language such as "strength," "sweetness," and "strife" to detail the activity they must partake in. Marvell explains how the pleasures in life are what make it worth it, and encourages the lady even more (lines 41-44). Marvell finishes by emphasizing his point that their time is numbered (lines 45-46). This entire stanza serves to further encourage the lady, frequently using the word "now" to express the time sensitivity of the…
