a. What did Jefferson mean by the phrase?
Jefferson wanted to purge the USA of the Federalist party because they were not his allies and they advocated for big government. Jefferson believed in states rights and his pursuit of the presidency represented a revolution for his democratic-republican party and their beliefs. Jefferson
b. To what extent did the phrase accurately reflect the outcome of the election?
Jefferson believed that his win meant that political and cultural change could occur in the new nation without resorting to violence or bloodshed. The federalists let go office with anxiety but peacefully. The election proved that parties would not rip apart a democratic system. Instead, they served as a vehicle for peaceful discussion and change without war.

c. Looking at the record of Jefferson's presidency, in what respects did his policies represent a significant change from Federalist policies?
Jefferson pushed for smaller government and less infringing on lives of citizens. Jefferson slashed federal spending, virtually disbanded the army and navy, and repealed almost all taxes except those from the sales of federal lands. Jefferson believe land was the key to true equality, and by selling public lands, he hoped to encourage the creation of more small farms, fulfilling his vision of making America an agrarian bastion, and rid the government of debt.

d. In what areas could one see continuity with Jefferson's predecessors?
Present day USA needs to listen to Jefferson’s principles of slashing spending, reducing defense budget, lowing taxes, and riding government debt. These libertarian ideals are important values that the US was founded on. Today we are suffering from large government debt, taxes, and spending.
