Hispanic Culture Research Paper

Growing up and being raised far away from my country of birth, Mexico, I believe being Hispanic is not just a title I hold for being born in a Latin American country or that is based on how I look, how I dress, or how I act, but rather is keeping the history, my native language, the tradition and culture of my home country alive in me. Coming to this country at a young age did not allow me to enjoy the lifestyle of a “true” Mexican or Hispanic, but that didn’t stop me from learning the culture and the drive to expose my Hispanic background to others. I believe having the knowledge of not only my home country, but of other Latin American countries has helped me identify myself more with the Hispanic community. Because being Hispanic is a form of unity because it does not only mean that you are pure Mexican, Salvadorian, Columbian, or Spaniard, but it’s all together that we help define the Hispanic culture. It’s being multilingual and multicultural that makes us stand out. This is what makes us feel in family, that even though we don’t all come from the same country we share a beautiful language, we share the music, the art, and the food. Strength, because we have survived discrimination and abuse without losing our dreams. Dreams to persevere in a country that is not our own. Dreams to have a better life and a better education than our ancestors. Passion, because the fire in our hearts adds that essence on our lives. Passion for the culture and the dedication we put to our music, food, and more specially the legacy we leave to those that come after us. Pride, because we stand firm to our beliefs.
