Greeks have always been known for their stories and mythological culture. They explained many things in life as affects of these mythological phenomena. It wasn't until later that they began to use science to understand how things really worked. Mythology and story-telling was exceptionally popular during the Dorian Age, and this was a time when Greeks weren't very advanced. They didn't have any written documents really, and stories were no exception.

One of the major flaws of Monarchy is that it is very easy to become corrupt in a system of dynasties. This was proven when the dynastic cycle came into play early in Chinese history. Also, when a dynasty falls with the last heir to the family name, power struggles tend to happen among the higher class citizens.
Aristocracy is another form of government that is highly susceptible to being flawed and corrupted. Aristocracy is a government ruled by the rich and intelligent, so it makes sense that it would be corrupt. It is a government for the people, by the people. When every citizen gets a choice in what happens, there isn't much room for executive corruption. One downside of a true democracy is that it isn't sustainable with large populations, nor with an international government. Even today, if a small country were a true democracy, then there would be so many international decisions made on a daily basis that all the citizens would be doing is making decisions on behalf of their country.
