Would a robber baron donate all of his hard earned money back to the public? Andrew Carnegie is a Captain of Industry because of his great work ethic, how he created many jobs, and how he spent his money. The first reason of why he is a Captain of Industry is because of his great work ethic. Andrew first started out as a messenger for a telegram company and Andrew being the great kid he was, went the extra mile and did the job the best he possibly could. After getting experience from his first job he went ahead and started his own steel company. His company was a success but to keep it going he later merged with a bigger steel company and his profits were even higher. All of this shows how his great work ethic really paid off. Not only did Andrew Carnegie benefit himself through his great work ethic but he also created many jobs for people along the way. He gave poor people and many immigrants jobs at his factories and paid them a good amount at first. Then he realized he could make even more money and he then cut the wages a little bit. Even though he cut their wages a little, he still helped them start a life in the new world by giving them money and setting them on the right path. This is how his ideas and determination helped create many jobs for many people. After he had earned his lump sum of money, He did many positive things with it. Andrew Carnegie was person who believed that not all money should be left for the family, but returned to the people. He thought that a man should make as much money as he possibly could and then give it all away for the good people. He gave away over $350 million in today’s money to various charities and organizations. With his donated money, they were able to build 3,000 public libraries, along with music halls and many educational grants. This really shows all the great things he did with his money and why he is a captain of industry. If Andrew Carnegie was a robber baron,
