The writer Fernando Pico mostly concentrated on the history of Middle Ages during his university career. But he dedicated his writing career to write about Puerto Rico`s social life. He has a lot of writings about Puerto Rico`s social life. He basically wrote everything about Puerto Rico`s social life from slaves, coffee and colonial officials and even about Students, prisoners, protesters and yet more type of people are covered in his writings in order to express their inner character. In Pico book, he organized his book to something that we can really call a history book, where we can have a close look on the hardships, hopes and solidarities of the social life of Puerto Ricans. On his focus on the local history of Puerto Ricans lives, he had written the book in the form of historical writing. Pico’s book the history of Puerto Rico: a Panorama of its people is a translated version of his very famous book about Puerto Rico`s History. The book was published in Spain in 1986 and nearly after two decades, the book became available for English readers.
In my opinion Fernando Pico wrote a very informative history of Puerto Rico. This book is so strong in offering detailed analysis of the Amerindian foundations of the Caribbean island, the devastating impact of the European takeover, the contributions of the immigrant groups to the island, and the very sad truth about the slave trade.
The writer first starts of by writing a short chapter on the Geography of The Island. Then the next eleven chapters features, the social history of the colonization between the later sixteen and seventeen centuries and about economic expansion that happened in the nineteen century. Pico actually wrote three chapters covering the periods during 1765 and 1823. I think the closer I got to the end of Spanish rule and the beginning of U.S. colonial, the more and more interesting the Puerto Rican story got. That
