In 1887 the relaxer was invented by a woman named Garret A. Morgan, who was a child of former slaves (Ramsey, “The History of Relaxers). African Americans back then thought that by putting relaxers in their hair it would make their hair straight and more manageable. As time went by white people had already been brainwashed that black people’s hair being different textures of curly hair is ugly. Different women were trying so hard to make sure that their hair is as straight as possible. This trend also was trending among black males too. The relaxing of hair became widely popular from the 1800’s to the mid 2000’s (Ramsey, “The History of Relaxers). In the late 2000’s the amount of African Americas who stopped using relaxers decreased dramatically,

More African Americans are starting to become more conscious of the brainwashing of white supremacy that they decided to make a conscious effort and create self love. They were willing to accept themselves the way they were created, because of this fact more companies decided to make more products that would be very much suitable for black hair. These companies were considerate enough to create hair products that will cater to black hair, although it was a create achievement but still white people were not happy. Recently earlier on in 2016 there was a white woman who tans her skin and creates fake curls that are similar to a black person’s natural curls. Rachel Dolezal identifies herself as a black woman even though she was really a Caucasian (King, “Rachel Dolezal Race is a social construct”). This is an example of white supremacy, this is an example of how white people always want to make everything about them. This is a real example on culture appropriate which is very popular with whites, they take other people’s culture and try and make it their own.
