First, the samurai created and used many different types of weapons. The samurai owned two main types of swords. Their main sword was the katana, a curved longsword . The curve on the sword was so when you draw it, you can slash the person instantly.(D) The wakizashi was a smaller version of the katana.(D) The wakizashi sword was used when indoors because the katana sword would be too long to be used in combat in these areas and would be impossible, so they would use their secondary weapon just in case.(D) Another weapon used was the tessen. The tessen was considered a symbol of authority in Japan. (D) The Tessen was made from iron ribs (D) and was a fan that folded into a steel baton. Speaking of batons, Truncheons were the police bataon equivalent for the Japanese samurais. They were used to be away to restrain a criminal. A tool used to restrain was The Polearms of Capture. It consists of three poles: one had a T shaped head, one had a barbed rake, a claw like attachment and used to strangle or …show more content…
stab a target to capture them and the final pole had a U shape to hold someone by the head against a wall. Japas also managed to turn farming tools into deadly weapons. The Kama was traditionally used for cropping and everyday working (D) until Japan decided to turn it into one of the most dangerous weapons ever. This weapon was a small hand held scythe with a very sharp blade attached together by a chain. The iron peaked staff was used so that fire did not spread until someone in Japan discovered its use as a powerful weapon. The last and most ironic weapon to the samurai was the shurkin, which would later be referred to as ninja stars. They were made of iron and steel in the shape of tiny stars that were so sharp that it could injury the warriors arms which were not protected by armor. The use of the shurikens forced enemies to avoid the samurai making enemies tired, unable to fight back with melee, and could kill if the head was struck. Those are just a few of the Japanese samurai’s weapons.
Next, the samurai’s armor was maybe the greatest and coolest thing about them.
A samurai’s armor was very well made of steel, silk, leather, and wood. The armor was not the most protective but it allowed for maximum movement and made it easier to fight in battle. The armor usually covered the left arm because samurais were made to use their right arm even if they were left handed. The armor also served as a fear tactic. The mask made the samurais look like demons which made some enemies surrender to them. The samurai's armor was also a sign of pride. It showed who they were and they took very good care of the armor, treating it like family. This description is just a small sampling of the samurai
armor.
Finally, being a samurai means more than just being a good fighter. A samurai could never relax (C) because they were always working hard. Samurais wrote poetry (C), the famous being the haiku. The most famous haikus consist of Furu-ike-Ya, Kawatzu, Hobikumu, and Mizumoto (C). Samurais could also be girls (B) and were very smart. They were skilled in mathematics (B) and trained to write in calligraphy. Samurais were very extraordinary people who were serious about religion and honor. Ritual suicide by disembowelment (seppuku) was institutional as a respected alternative to dishonor or defeat. Seppuku is the act of stabbing yourself through the stomach until your body is severed in half. This ritual is performed with no assistance from others until the final moments in which someone will end this suffering by decapitating the samurai. This describes the vigerous training of the samurai warriors.
In conclusion, the samurai were more than just some group of fighters. Their weapons, armor, and training make them one of the most recognizable symbol ever. The samurai helped shaped the world in war, intelligence, and ideas.
