History Of The Salvation Army
“In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven” Matthew 5:16 (Dake’s Annontated Reference Bible). Helping others is the most important thing that anyone can do and it does not matter how much you have you should share what you have with others. “Doing the Most Good” is the Salvation Army’s slogan because they want to help people in their time of need while sharing the Christian gospel. The Salvation Army is a Christian based organization that is looking to help as many people as they can. Their Christian beliefs are the reason why I choose their organization to volunteer to help them and learn more about their organization. This paper will talk about

History
In 1865, William Booth put a tent inside of the Quaker graveyard in London where he held services that became an instant success ("The Salvation Army," 2016).
This was the beginning of his role as an evangelistic religious leader and the founder of The Salvation Army. He began to convert poor people and the ones who were down on their luck and practiced less than respectable behavior. William Booth came up with the name “The Salvation Army” which is still used by the company today. Booth’s goal was covert men in to soldiers of Christ and he called them Salvationists who are always lead by a General not at CEO ("The Salvation Army," 2016). Many people were converted to Christianity under the ministry of The Salvation army in the late 1800s to the point that it began to move in to other countries such as Australia, France and many more. Today the Salvation Army is active in every corner of the world including the United States. The salvation army was one of the first organizations to have a female in charge of run it, she was their leader from 1934 to 1939 she was the daughter of the founder of the salvation army and they have had two more female leaders since her time. They are a very forward thinking Christian organization who does not discriminate against
others. Today the Salvation Army provides the hopeless with hope. They give people who are homeless food, shelter and a place to get clean. Once the Salvation Army provides a person with their basic needs, they help them by offer them with hope that can only be found in the lord. The Salvation Army tries to do many events in the community from Easter egg hunt, the SOUPer Bowl, to their Christmas collection each year. They try to help as many people in need as they can and they pledge to spend $.83 of every dollar on those people in need.
