While lying on the grass in the front yard, I imagined the exciting night ahead. Before long, Taylor and his girlfriend, Kara, arrived and picked me up. Almost immediately, I stood up and sauntered in my Duke sweatshirt and basketball shorts over to their car. I jumped into the backseat. Immediately, I was assaulted with the strong smell of perfume that had been sprayed inside the car because it belonged to Kara. Tonight instead of driving, she decided to let Taylor drive illegally without a license. As we drove off to Erik’s house, the rendezvous for tonight’s “Goatman” adventure, we saw a police officer had just pulled a car over. As we drove by, we breathe easier and relaxed because we didn’t see any more cops on the way.…

Connie being in the puberty is being pulled by natural forces by the desired that she is not conscious about it and doesn’t have an explanation for it. Another language that Oates uses is she focus on Arnold Friend physical. Connie got to recognized most of the things about him since the moment she met him. Words like thighs and buttocks were mention to show his sexual nature. Arnold friend smile was emphasized as a slippery friendly smile in other words as a dreamy smile. Oates used this term to communicate with Connie to entangle her and easily get her. Finally, she also describes Connie beating heart, this help Connie express her dissociative state. They live in illusions, with the memories of reality in the past, similar to 1984, where history is important to accepting of their reality. This play shows how characters distort truths to accept the fact that they cannot understand each other. Amanda alludes to her past, and is untruthful to herself in order to cope with her reality. She cannot understand her children's’ ways. As a mother, she remembers her youthful experiences, and longs for the same for her children, Tom and Laura. When talking of her past, she has an elated diction, happier than that of when she talks of the present: QUOTE AND EXPLAIN. Her past has become an illusion and is not the truth of her reality, yet it influences her language. Amanda was outgoing in her youth and desired much attention, differing tremendously from Laura. The language when she describes her lifestyle is a zealous tone, showing excitement and eagerness for her daughter to feel the same. She often tries to live vicariously through her daughter, in denial of the…

If these customs were challenged everything seemed to fall apart. Prior to David and Jennifer arriving, Betty Parker was a picture perfect house wife. When things in Pleasantville began to change Betty refused to cave in to the changing society and stuck with her, and her husbands, beliefs. However, not everything remained pleasant. Betty knew that it was terrible to go against the Pleasantville customs, but something inside her was telling her to change. Firstly, Betty was introduced to many new concepts from Jennifer such as sleeping in one bed, intercourse, and how to please herself. As Betty put her newly learnt knowledge to the test she began to see colour and a tree instantaneously burst into flames. The fire symbolized that this was just the start of something big and that there was much change, along with conflicts, to come. Spectators observed the fire in awe and no one really knew what was going on. This was the first time that something imperfect had happened in the town. Secondly, Betty forgot to cook dinner for her husband one night. “Where’s my dinner?”, was a phrase that caused panic in the community. Betty’s husband looked everywhere for his wife, but Betty was no where to be seen. The imagine of the perfect wife was shattered in Mr. Parker’s eyes when his wife left the house the next day…
