Despite their unequal status, women remained strong supports of Hitler. The role of women was confined to the role of family life and motherhood. At school, girls were taught their future role was one of motherhood and women were discouraged from wearing make-up. The Nazis were determined to increase the birth rate and marriage and family were encouraged. Families of four or more children were given reduced rail fares and gas/electricity bill. Law for the Promotion of Marriage (1934) – married couples who were genetically healthy were eligible for a loan provided women gave up their job and every time a child was born an amount of repayment was taken off. The Nazis regarded the aim of education as indoctrination. Education had to be controlled so it reflected traditional Germans values. Boys/girls educated separately, girls did only domestic courses.
