The story is laid out in a more narrative style, allowing the reader to learn about the events that happened during this important year in a more entertaining way. When reading the book, the reader is able to feel immersed in Hitler’s world more than they would ever be able to with a simple textbook. Because of this way of writing his book, Giles MacDonogh is able to focus on smaller, perhaps lesser known facts. This includes exactly how Germany took over Austria and essentially began World War II. He writes about specific discussions that took place, something a typical history book may not tell readers. It also talks about the changes Hitler made to the Jewish communities before eventually beginning the extermination.
