Hockey Slap Shot Research Paper
Significance of Cardiovascular and Respiratory system in a hockey slap shot A healthy heart is essential for a hockey slap shot. Hockey is mostly thought of as an anaerobic sport/exercise as players play in shifts that can range from 1-2 minutes. For that short amount of time they will exhaust a significant amount of energy that could sustain someone for a much longer duration. Performing a slap shot is an explosive movement. The slap shot can be categorized into 3 stages of movement - Preparation, Windup, and Follow Through/Impact. Consequently the intense nature of the movement causes an increase in your heart rate particularly at the follow through/ impact which is when the player actually will attempt to take the shot . The slap shot …show more content…
As previously mentioned it is a explosive movement that causes an increased demand on your cardiovascular system. The slap shot also requires a strong respiratory system. Various things occur to the body due to this movement such as; breathing rates increase with higher intensity activity such as a slap shot. Therefore, having an efficient respiratory system enables more air to move in and out of the lungs and enhancing gas exchange. In addition, improvement of the respiratory system also results in a stronger diaphragm and intercostals muscles . Consequently this leads to a substantial improvement to breathe in more air, for longer with less fatigue. This is imperative for slap shot as after the player takes the shot their heart rate will be higher than normal yet they will be expected to continue playing. Although the duration of the activity is short the intensity at which it is performed is very high and heart rate increases along with breathing becomes more laborious. In spite of that a efficient respiratory system enables to combat fatigue successfully for a longer amount of time enabling a stronger

In preparation for just the right shot, a good player needs to understand the basic rotary mechanics, the first link in the chain. The initiation of the shooting motion begins in the lower body, one needs to have the ability to create a pelvic torque. It starts from the bottom and works its way up. When you add gravity, momentum, body rotation, and stabilization together, torque is your ending result. Gravity utilizes a vertical force while momentum employs a horizontal force. “A force can produce a torque and a torque can produce a force” (Bloomfield, 53). In the rotation of the body, the player is focusing more on a rotational motion. According to The Physics of Everyday Life: How Things Work, “rotational motion is…

Shooting, skating, and goaltending. These are all 3 things that have science behind them in the game of hockey. The slap shot is the hardest shot that a player has to use. What makes a slap shot go so fast. A good slap shot is the result of weight transfer. The weight transfers from the legs to the core to the shoulder down to the arms and then to the stick in the hands. The player has to hit the ice just before the puck. This causes the stick to arch back. Then when the stick makes contact with the puck the part of the stick that was arched releases all of its stored energy on the puck and this causes the puck to go flying. To get more accuracy on the shot the player must flick his/her wrist at the end of motion. The slap shot is an example…

Current National Hockey League Commissioner, Gary Bettman has asked many inquiring questions to the governing body of the league along with the general managers of all thirty teams on how to handle this delicate issue. Hockey is a collision sport, not just a contact sport. Rough contact is an essential part of the game. Hockey is also an extremely fast game. During the General Manager meetings in March of 2011 Bettman was quoted, “A full 14 percent of N.H.L. concussions are caused by “legal head shots”; i.e., north-south hits…

My first problem was the ghost of Darius. I think that he came in anger. I had done this miserable thing to my copy of Aeschylus’ Persians – I had given it a fringe of those little yellow flags whose purpose it is to destroy the appearance of any fine-looking book. I had been assigned one of the first papers I'd write here, and I am sure that wanted to hold off for another moment that unspooling experience by scrambling to organize what happily bedevils the highlighting and underlining eye. I made several pages of very neat, probably very pallid notes. The thing I was going to make was due soon. The writing of it had to start now, if not the day before. I felt – and still I feel this way – as though I were sprawled out on the ground, groping at the ankles of people running quick to somewhere I don't know. I am trying to trip something that won't fall, and make it lay still with me in the dirt, where I can't see much of anything, and everything confused.…

You’ve seen it. At least once in the hall. Maybe you've even done it to someone. Some people call it a “shoulder check”. This name is based off a term in hockey. This is because the actions are somewhat similar to each other. Shoulder Checking in hockey is running your shoulder into another player’s shoulder. This is usually done while going full speed down the ice with your shoulder. Shoulder checking another person in the hall is still running your shoulder into theirs. It is much less violent than in hockey and is obviously not done on ice.…

Shoulder fake left, head fake right, a sweet inside outside move, and he fires it in top shelf, beating the goalie glove side to win the game. While that may sound like a narrative of a game-winning hockey goal, in reality, it is 1:30 AM on your average Thursday night and I am struggling to find the perfect concluding sentence to finish my history term paper. Often when I am struggling to find an answer to a question or need to concentrate on any given topic, I reach for my worn-out Warrior hockey stick and my dusty orange ball and begin to stickhandle mindlessly. One might never know, that my mind is far away from hockey as I look like a complete fool deking (hockey term for getting past people) imaginary people on my way to an imaginary net.…

When hockey players run, they breath faster and their heart beats faster. This causes the hockey players to lose weight and burn calories. According to AJ Carpenter, “Cardiovascular, or aerobic, exercise occurs when your movements cause your breathing and heart rate to increase, resulting in calorie burn [...] Hockey is a form of cardiovascular exercise”(Carpenter). Hockey can help with burning calories but some people may say that hockey can lead to fights and discourage some students from playing.…
