“Stanley was not a bad kid.” the narrator said in the novel Holes.Stanley has changed a lot throughout the book. All of the events in the story helped and lead up to who Stanley is at the end of the book. At the beginning, he was respectful and well behaved, but towards the end of the book, he was still thoughtful, but a little bit sneaky. Before Stanley changed at the end of the book, he was a respectful and well behaved boy. When he first arrived at camp, he always answered to Mr. Sir like “Yes, Mr.Sir” or “No,Mr.Sir” whenever he would ask a question. This shows that he was very respectful. Also, Stanley and his family were very poor at the beginning. That all changed at the end of the story. Before Stanley had to go to Camp Green Lake, he was teased at his middle school. This was because he was a little chubby and overweight. …show more content…
He made Stanley happy and made him believe in himself. When Stanley got in a fist fight with Zigzag, Zero protected Stanley and started to choke Zigzag.     Regardless he was a capable pianist or he was not, they did not want to see him as a pianist. The audience, in fact, did not want to see him in his role and space that he was thought he had deserved it. For Stanley, it is yet not clear who has done that to him, whether the audience in a fixed conspiracy have done so or it was an order by the authority in power. However, his identity is taken away and his space is violated.     The main dispute for Stanley was breaking his family curse. Although he didn't know if it was even real and that he had broken it , it was clear for the audience watching the movie that he had. The curse was put on his family more than 100 years ago when the first Yelnats, Elya Yelnats went to a fortune teller called Madame Zeroni.     To judge what extent Stanley is a villain it is necessary to first assess which criteria of a typical villain he fits. Throughout the play Stanley proves that he inflicts emotional pain on Blanche, and by not letting her forget her past and by destroying any possibility of love in her life Stanley becomes an obstacle she must attempt to overcome.
