“Stanley was not a bad kid.” the narrator said in the novel Holes.Stanley has changed a lot throughout the book. All of the events in the story helped and lead up to who Stanley is at the end of the book. At the beginning, he was respectful and well behaved, but towards the end of the book, he was still thoughtful, but a little bit sneaky. Before Stanley changed at the end of the book, he was a respectful and well behaved boy. When he first arrived at camp, he always answered to Mr. Sir like “Yes, Mr.Sir” or “No,Mr.Sir” whenever he would ask a question. This shows that he was very respectful. Also, Stanley and his family were very poor at the beginning. That all changed at the end of the story. Before Stanley had to go to Camp Green Lake, he was teased at his middle school. Zero really cared about his friend and stood up for him. When Zero collapses Stanley carried him up the mountain. That shows the change that Stanley is very selfless at the end of the book.
