Every once a year, someone always has that one tradition they like to do on a holiday. Well, mine so happens to be on Christmas. Every year on Christmas, my family and I like to play fun games after opening our presents and done having dinner. Some may have the same thing every year just like my family, but in my opinion, I don’t think it’s the actual same. My family and I like to be different every year. Even though we still buy each other gifts, there are some things we just buy for the fun games! Every year we try to come up with a new game, sometimes we play cards to win a gift. The fun about winning one of those gifts is that it’s not something that you expected, for example, a tissue box or maybe even a candle because it can be random. It’s the best to have a random gift because later on, we actually might just use it, which makes the fun out of the random gift. People also have their own types of recipes, mine so ever tries different things every year because my family and I like to switch up things every once in awhile and try something new. We usually look up recipes in a cook book or the internet and would bring it to each other’s houses. My family and I like to try new things every year because we wouldn’t want to get bored with the same thing every year something new is also exciting! My family and I also like to visit each other’s houses so we wouldn’t get bored going to the same one house every year. Before opening all of our presents my family and I like to try the new recipes that everyone has tried to make. My aunt however is more sticking to what she loves to make, cupcakes. In my opinion they are never bad; they always have a good taste the best I ever had and a pretty decorations on them. My mom also likes to stick with her artichoke dip, but other than sticking to what everyone loves, my family and I love to look on the internet and always try new things. It’s always exciting to do new

Rarely do I ever cook, so doing it for the first time seems really fun! When I do something nice for someone or something else, I feel much happier on the giving side as opposed to the receiving end. This can be compared to american football, when the quarterback passes the ball to the wide receiver. In this scenario, even though the receiver gets the glory, the truth is all the hard work was put in by the quarterback. The feeling of giving is unparalleled to any other. In conclusion, cooking for once would make me feel nice.…

It gave us all time to relax from everything and just be able to do what ever we wanted. There was no power over any one and we just lived life care free for a couple weeks. I will never forget the Christmas when I was 14 years old. The whole day was so wonderful and exciting. We had to wake up and unwrap presents early because my father was working that day so everyone woke up at 5:00 AM. After all the presents were given out, everyone said was saying goodbye to my father and went back to sleep. At 9:00 AM, we had to wake up to clean the house because we have “Christmas Brunch” every other year where my whole family comes to have a meal. My mom has a total of 5 brothers and sisters. And they all came with their families, which included their kids and some of their kids even have children. So, at my house, there was a rough total of about fifty family members for the brunch. The food that we ate on this day was unbelievably and utterly amazing. Most of the types of food that we devoured were Polish and German cultural foods, which are the two major nationalities in my family. There was fried Polish sausage with sautéed onions. They were a perfect combination of saltiness to sweetness. Then there were some sweet and creamy pecan rolls that my grandmother used to make all the time, but unfortunately I could not have one since I am allergic to nuts. Then to top all of those foods, there were all different sorts of pierogi. There were the family favorite potato pierogi, the sweet cheese pierogi, and then there were the blueberry pierogi which are my favorite. Those foods were the three items that we mostly ate at the brunch. All the adults would be either drinking coffee, soda, or some alcoholic beverages and for me my favorite thing to drink: Polish carbonated water.…

Spending good quality time with family is really enjoyable. The quality of the time spent is irreplaceable. We love playing scrabble with each other after our feast. Laughing and joking with each other because someone decides to make new words while playing. Monopoly is always fun too. I enjoy catching up and talking with loved ones that I haven’t seen in a while. Just sitting around and watching a new movie with the family or even simply to relax. I am so blessed to have such a great family.…

The holiday tradition for christmas in my family starts on Christmas eve, since I have little brother and sisters we bake cookies for santa and set the milk out and we even put reindoor food out! (It's glitter and trail mix) When me and my siblings have finally fell asleep, my parents put out nthe gifts they don't wrap the ones from santa so it looks more realistic! Anyways, early in the morning we wake up and see the gifts from santa, then we open the ones from our parents. After our presents have been opened and the mess from all the wrapping paper and open boxes are cleaned up we go to the waffle house and chow down! Then we get together with our whole family and have christmas dinner and exchange presents. Even generations ago, my family members realized how difficult it was to fit in time to see distant family members. That’s why since my great grandmother was around, we’ve spent one day during the holiday season participating in what we call The Progressive. As the tradition goes, each family is required to prepare one part of the traditional five course meal, the assignment of which rotates between the families each year. Each family prepares their part of the meal and hosts it at their home, allowing the entire family to visit everyone’s home and “progress” through one giant five course meal throughout the course of the day. It has, without a doubt, provided some of my family’s favorite stories throughout the years while allowing us to reflect on the year’s past with each other. Although it has been around since my grandparents were children, it has changed drastically since it’s inception those many years ago.…

I always know it is Thanksgiving morning when I awake to the smell of the turkey roasting in the oven and the cinnamon apple spice tea brewing on the stove. The rest of the morning is spent helpingmy mom and grandmother cooking in our large open kitchen. Every year for as long as I can remember, my grandmother uses my Nana’s recipies when cooking the thick butter garlic mashed potatoes, homemade sweet red cranberry sauce, and the rich creamy dark gravy. On the other hand, my mom and I always cook the french green beans, sausage and bread stuffing, and also our homemade pumpkin pie together. While the women spend most of the early afternoon in the kitchen getting things ready, the men normally gather in the living room and watch sports or play a board game on the coffee table. It is a rule in our house that no man is allowed in the kitchen while we are cooking unless he is coming to help with dishes; otherwise the men eat all the food as it is being prepared.…

Well, my family and I went on the MSC Sinfonia ship cruise with some of my sister’s boyfriend’s family. On Saturday everyone met at the Durban harbour to board the ship, we boarded the ship at 11am and they gave us lunch as soon as we were all settled in. The food was lovely. After lunch we went back to our cabins and they had an emergency drill, it was so much fun but a little scary at the same time, I loved the thrill. After the drill my mum n my sisters and I went to the deck of the ship to swim in the pool, at 5pm we went back to our cabins to bath and change in to our evening formal clothes. We went to the restaurant for supper. After supper we went to watch a show in the sinfonia lounge, after the show everyone went their separate ways. So my sisters went with their boyfriends my mum had gone with all the adults so I went exploring. I started at deck of the ship going down and as you could have guessed I got lost. I was so scared I was on the 6th floor and there was no one in sight. The 6th floor was the biggest floor on the ship, so I couldn’t even find the stairs. I began to hear weird and strange noises, I was about to cry and just then something puts its hand on my shoulder and I start to scream, and as I turned around I saw my sisters boyfriends cousin Ashish and Nickeel standing there and laughing. I was so relieved to see them but at the same time throw them over board for scaring me like that. I told them how I got lost and what I was doing there on my own, they then took me back to the deck were everyone was and didn’t leave me to wonder of alone…

When I was five years old girl, I was often envious of my mother and grandmother cooking together for the Jewish holidays. I was too young to understand the dangers of the oven and the stove, so year after year I was frustrated that I was excluded from the meal preparation. After a few seasons of whining and complaining, my grandma decided to humor me. For the big feast on the first night of Rosh HaShanah, she enlisted my help. She chose an interesting dish my five year old self could actually help make: meatloaf mashed potato cupcakes. Nonetheless, I thoroughly enjoyed helping my grandma make them and for a few years it was somewhat of a holiday ritual. I would…
