Holiday: Parking Lot and Busy Saturday Morning
During my holiday season last year, I had an unforgettable experience that still remains fresh in my memory. I remember going to the shopping mall with my aunty in the early hours on a Saturday to do some shopping. Fortunately for us, we were able to secure a parking space on that busy Saturday morning because we left the house early.
The shopping mall was so busy that people were engrossed with their shopping that they could not take note of anything unusual in and around the vicinity. Shortly before mid-day, we had just finished shopping and about to head to the car park when we heard a large explosion. At first, it sounded like fireworks but because it wasn’t Christmas yet, I became so scared. Before I knew what was happening, I saw people rushing towards the exit of the shopping mall. Everyone wanted to come out as the gun shot became louder. I could see people falling down and gasping for air, with slides of glasses everywhere. The place was a complete disaster! The police and the paramedics arrived at the scene and within minutes they were able to secure the area, help the helpless and transport the injured.
It was later understood that some thieves tried buggling a jewel shop in the broad day light but was unlucky as the alarm went off. Releasing it would an end for them; they pulled out their guns and started to shoot into the air in order to cause commotion so that they could escape. However, some store owners were brave enough to pin down the thieves before they could escape.
At the end of the day, the police questioned some of us including my aunty who was terrified about what had just happened and from then we were allowed to go

On October 2nd, 2002, a shooting spree near the Nation’s Capital would begin with the killing of a 55-year-old man and last 23 days. By the next morning, the 911 call center in the area would become inundated with calls of shootings across Montgomery County, Maryland. By the end of the day, four people were shot and killed in Maryland, and another was killed in the District of Columbia (FBI, 2007). Law Enforcement needed to act quickly to figure out if the shootings were linked and if so, who the suspects were. Over the course of several weeks, many more individuals would be killed or injured by shootings at random. The randomness of the shootings led the public to enter a panic, fearful of not knowing who the next victim could be. Law enforcement also had a difficult time as there did not appear to be any specific reason as to why some were targeted and others were not. Once the shootings were linked, law enforcement quickly worked together including local, state, and federal authorities.…

One of the most memorable moments I have experienced was four years ago, when I traveled from Matamoros, Tamaulipas to San Antonio, Texas. I had the opportunity of visiting San Antonio for the first time, and more importantly, of spending time with my family who I had not seen in years prior to the trip. Spending time with my family is of great value and importance to me, so I became utterly excited to see them as soon as I had the chance.…

It was a Wednesday morning that I'll never forget. I had woken up at 3 in the morning because I had to be at a park for a physical fitness test. The test was not until 6 but because I was taking the bus, I had to make sure I was out of bed and out of the house early in the morning. The first few minutes of my commute were peaceful; there was light rain, birds chirping, the insect's low buzzing in the distance. It was just a normal morning. After I had gotten on the 85 bus that goes down Central to Jefferson Park I was a little groggy so I rested up against the heating compartment. The little designated area where you push a button and the heat comes on during the winter months so that commuters are not stuck out in the cold for too…

Not knowing where to go. But feeling the building rumble and shake in my fear of claustrophobia. I remember hearing “GET DOWN! RUN!” Making a quick mover I jumped forward and make a break for the fire exit, it was crowded with men and women crying in pain, I joined them. The only thing I could think about is getting out of this place and Michael. I kept on stumbling down the steps holding on to people on my way down. Feeling a terrible pain in my right thigh, I peered down and saw a big gash of blood and a clear shard. I guess I couldn’t feel it because of all the adrenaline. I didn’t have time for this, only for Michael and escaping. From above a sound of falling concrete and metal bending brought an increase of screams. Maybe that woman from earlier was caught up there, so much for being important. I finally found a clearing of light from the exit. Flooding people out of the exit seemed like a liquid rushing out of a beer bottle. Finally, I made it outside but my matters have only gotten worse, the building was collapsing and I’m under everything. A lady grabbed me from the back and pulled me hard, making me drop down. Dodging a cinderblock, thanking her I ran the opposite way of the building and looking for the closest cover. Glancing back I saw people getting crushed from the construction above. There was no time to think, I had to go. Finding a distant building I took cover with the rest of the citizens praying for their life. “What’s happening?” I hollered. An old man next to me said “an attack.” My eyes widened as I watched the building fully collapse upon hundreds and hundreds of innocent people. “Who would’ve done this?” I asked terrified. The man ignored me as he watched the people were panicking. He might be panicking, but not showing his emotion. I calmed down my breathing and took a drink from a kind man giving out bottles from the café, also bandaging my wound keeping…

The most memorable time in my life was my daughter's cleft palate surgery. It was January 4th when my daughter and I had to leave El Paso, TX to take a trip to Austin, TX. It was a long drive for a little baby like her at the time she was only two years old. Early that morning my parents took us to the bus station. The bus was leaving at 6 a.m. in the morning to get to Austin, TX at midnight. My daughter and I felt it was the longest drive ever as the bus was very full and kept stopping. Finally, we arrived to Austin at midnight. I had to walk around for some time until I found a cab to take us to the hotel. I was scared and nervous. I was all alone with my daughter in a city we didn't know. We arrived to the hotel and finally felt safe and some peace. As soon as we walked in the room, I called my family and let them know we were good.…
