Holiday Trilogy Research Paper
The Holiday Trilogy is the brainchild of three talented housewives: Anne Gilbert, Camille McCabe, and Maria B. Morales. Camille (the inspiration for all our original projects) and Anne wrote the script and lyrics. Maria, an accomplished pianist, composed the music to the three songs that accompany the three individual books.
This multitalented trio have written, staged, and produced many children’s productions. From these productions, a bevy of talented and beautiful children emerged. This prompted Maria to become manager and owner of Sunshine Talent Reps. Inc., representing infants to teens for television, stage, and screen. Many of these children went on to fame and stardom.
An entire show, Hi, Mom, What’s New?, was written by Camille,

Hee, like most young animals, was curious and liked to visit new places and experience new things. Hee loved to travel and learn. Hee liked to ask questions and listen to people who would teach him.

One day Hee set off on a journey to see the faraway lands known as England and Ireland. This land is located in the northern part of Europe. It is found on two islands, the British Isles, in the North Atlantic Ocean. The land is green and fertile. There is a lot of rain there. It is a land with forests and hills. When Hee reached this beautiful land, he went in search of answers to his question: What is the story of Halloween?

Many, many years ago—twenty four hundred years ago to be exact—a group of people named the Celts invaded these islands. These people, like many ancient people, believed in honoring natural things, like the sun, animals, water, and trees. They believed that the sun made things develop and grow.

Hee laughed at that idea. He thought about bats and possums and how they like nighttime. They do not like to go out in the sun. They sleep during the day and go out at

This day, which is November 1, marks the end of summer and the beginning of the season of cold and dark. Samhain also marks the beginning of the new year. The animals are moved back home from their pastures and preparations are made for colder weather and less sunlight during the day time. People believed that in the new year the sun was taken prisoner by the Lord of Darkness.

On the eve of the festival of Samhain, the spirits of the dead were thought to revisit their earthly homes. These spirits took the form of animals. A black cat was a symbol of the most evil spirit. Ghosts, witches, and fairies were supposed to roam about the land and scare and chase the evil spirits away.

Hee was jumping and laughing. He understood the ideas from the Celts. Hee said that today for Halloween, children put on costumes and pretend to scare people. They like to shout, “Trick or treat!” and go to see their neighbors to get treats.

The Celtic people would build great bonfires out of the corn husks from the year’s harvest. They used this great fire to relight the fireplaces and stoves in their homes. This would create a connection between the old year and the new

The self published novella 'A Christmas Carol' was written by Engligh author Charles Dickens in 1843. It sold all 6,000 copies within 9 days of hitting the stands and was met with instant success and critical acclaim. It tells the story of bitter old miser Ebenezer Scrooge and his reluctant jouney to find the Christmas Spirit guided by supernatural visitors Jacob Marley and the Ghosts of Christmases Past, Present and Yet to Come. The effect the Charles Dickens writings had on this rapidly waneing Christian Festival was so far reaching and well received that many refered to him as 'The Man who Invented Chrristmas'. While Dickens didn’t technically come up with Christmas, he couched its spirit in a philosophy and centered it on an image that compelled people to see it and feel it as he did. “There seems a magic in the very name of Christmas,” writes Dickens, when “petty jealousies and discords are forgotten.”…

“Christmas” by Floyd Dell and “Christmas Time on the Frontier,” are both stories that tell of poor families on Christmas day. In “Christmas,“ the mom and dad never told their son they were poor. The son donated money to poor people at Sunday school, not knowing that he and his family were one of those “poor people” that people wanted to donate money to. He figured out towards the end that him and his family were poor, when he put all the pieces in his head together (why they only ate potato soup, avoided talking about Christmas entirely, mother was too ashamed to write name on donation envelope, etc.), which…

The Celts or Celtics created Halloween and their tradition spread throughout all of Europe. October 31 marked the end of their harvesting season and their Celting new year. October 31st was also thought of a time between years where the souls of the dead walked the earth. After the people lit huge bonfires to drive the dead away from the living. The Catholics frowned upon what was happening so the Vatican merged it with a church sanctioned holiday and it became All Saints Day. All Saints Day was also known as Hallowmas where Hallow meant holy or saintly and mass meant mass of the saints. The night before was known as All Hallows Eve, which gradually became known as Halloween. The people from Ireland came to America and with them came their traditions. On Halloween children wore masks and played tricks on people in their neighborhood. Gradually playing tricks got out of hand and turned into outright vandalism. Back in the 1930’s if you did not give children candy they would trash your house that is where we got the phrase “Trick or Treat”.…

By the 1920s and 1930s, Halloween had become a secular, but community-centered holiday, with parades and town-wide parties as the featured entertainment. Despite the best efforts of many schools and communities, vandalism began to plague Halloween celebrations in many communities during this time. By the 1950s, town leaders had successfully limited vandalism and Halloween had evolved into a holiday directed mainly at the young. Due to the high numbers of young children during the fifties baby boom, parties moved from town civic centers into the classroom or home, where they could be more easily accommodated. Between 1920 and 1950, the centuries-old practice of trick-or-treating was also revived. Trick-or-treating was a relatively inexpensive way for an entire community to share the Halloween celebration. In theory, families could also prevent tricks being played on them by providing the neighborhood children with small treats. A new American tradition was born, and it has continued to grow. Today, Americans spend an estimated $6 billion annually on Halloween, making it the country’s second largest commercial…
