“The Hurricane” is a movie based on the story of Lesra Martin, and his success in freeing the wrongfully accused boxer Rubin “Hurricane“ Carter. The movie takes place in the 1980s in the cities of West New York and Toronto following Lesra's attempts to free Carter. The Hollywood portrayal of Lesra has been changed substantially from reality as they incorrectly portray Lesra as a shy, tough, and unconcerned with his studies.
In real life, Lesra was not shy. Proof of this is when he was 11 years old, he was know to try to talk his way out of conflict. To further prove this point is that if a shy person were to get into a fight, their most likely course of action would be to have been to flee, as opposed to trying to find a diplomatic solution out of the problem. The most prominent however, would be that he made friends with the Canadians who were at the time, complete strangers that showed up at his workplace and then later went on to invite him to live at their house to further his education. …show more content…
