The Holy Sonnet 10, written by John Donne described how death isn’t as powerful as human perceive it to be. Donne expressed an attitude of being unimpressed and degrading with death. He expressed his views through comparing death to a slave and portraying death to be incompetent.
First, the speaker conveyed his Donne compares death to a slave. He shows his views in his Sonnet, “[t]hou art slave to fate, chance, kings and desperate men[.]” This shows that death has no power over anyone, only humans and destiny have control.
Second, Donne portrayed Death to be incompetent. This is shown in his quote, “Much, pleasure; then from thee much more must flow[.]” This shows that death is a release from the misery of life, and not
