Homecoming Game
Every homecoming game at CHS is magnificent. Considering that this was my last homecoming game being a student of Clarksdale High. I truly valued and cherish every moment of it. Each homecoming maid was simply beautiful as they walked out on the field. I was overwhelmed with excitement seeing all of my friends dressed in their beautiful ball gowns. Each maid conducted themselves with such grace and class even after losing they still remained respectful. Throughout the entire game I was overwhelmed with excitement. The game was going great our players were up by nearly 30 points . The bleachers were filled with people who loved and supported our wildcats . So many familiar faces returned home and reunited with their old classmates and loved

The stadium is well known for its hosting duties of the SEC baseball tournament, showcasing the top twelve teams in the Southeastern Conference. However, most Friday nights, the stadium is occupied by Hoover football fans and players. Once the band arrives, we line up and march into the stadium to our cadence. Marching begins right outside of the buses, continues into the stadium, and ends once we have reached the section of the stadium, which has been designated for the band, prior to the fans arrival. The band plays a few stand chants while the Buccanettes dance along. Once the clock strikes 10 minutes until the game, the band marches behind the visiting stands to line up for pregame. Pregame includes the entire band marching onto the field to a cadence, turning towards the audience, standing at attention, then playing the national anthem and alma matter. After these two songs are played the band will march into a new formation on the field that will allow the players to run through while the band plays the fight song. Buccanettes stand in front of the band doing our stand dance to this tune, the cheerleaders held a huge sign for the players to run through and the colorguard would run across the field with large Buccaneer flags. The audience’s reaction made the all the previous hours of getting ready worthwhile. The student section was filled with shakers, lettermen, and hundreds of students. The rest of the stadium was filled with fans from the community. After pregame, the band would march back to the stands to begin more stand chants. The band played tunes such as ESPN, sunshine, the fight song, word up, and many others. At the beginning of the second quarter we would again march out of the stadium where stretching would take place to warm up for the halftime show. The first thing…

I went to a tailgate for the USC vs. Vanderbilt away game given by Carolina After Dark and I had a blast! I honestly did not know what to expect. I was not planning on going, but decided to meet two of my friends there right before halftime. I was pleasantly surprised. They had really cool music playing and there were people dancing everywhere. It was overall such a fun atmosphere. It took me awhile to find my friends because there were so many people. I was so surprised at how many people were there. There were no seats left near my friends so I sat on the floor next to them. They had two huge white screens that they were projecting the game onto. It was so cool when USC did something good because the whole crowd would act like they were really…

I got on the bus looking for a seat I sat in the back with my friend Dillon who was practically the best kid on the team. Dillon said “you think we’re going to win today”. Our second game was against the former coach for UNA, Jason Anderson. Coach Anderson was the original coach who offered me a scholarship to UNA. The tension was high, due to familiar faces. We ended up having to play them twice and we beat them both times. After winning all four games we reached the Championship series. Humbolt, from New York, was our biggest obstacle we had to face. The team with the best two out of three wins was to be named the National Champs. The first game we played, we lost to Humbolt. The loss hit us hard and our spirits were down. All season we had not faced a pitcher that shut us down completely. Walking to the locker room after that loss, felt as if we had already became runner up in the Championship series. Beating Humbolt twice the next day, seemed to be an impossible task. We sat in silence as tears ran down our faces. Our coaches let us cry and let us get our emotions out. She knew the pressure we felt and the adversity that was staring us in the face. After 30 minutes of silence, one of the players brought up the games we had to play against UAH. Another player mentioned the victory against Valdosta, and we were instantly reminded that we were capable of anything. We knew that all of the hard work we had put in was not going to waste. We were not going to settle for anything else but a National…

Once you go to a basketball game, you will most defiantly have school pride. It’s one thing to go out and support your team just because it’s just that, you're team. It’s completely different when your school basketball team is really good, it is very exciting to watch the games, to say the least. A basketball game was the first Polk State function I had attended. Even though I knew not a single person in the stands I kept finding myself on my feet cheering on the team and booing the referees for bogus calls, I had school pride. I sat down in silence for a moment because I figured everyone in the stands was just starring at me and that the game had come to a screeching halt, the players and all. But I look around me and I am surrounded by cheering students, parents and teachers. Thats when I truly realized how much school pride there is a Polk State.…

I had just arrived to my destination: Gallipoli, Turkey. As nervous as I was already with shivers down my spine nearly every minute I didn’t want to lose my young life tomorrow. It was a long ride but my troops and I were prepared for what could come our way. We jumped off the half sunken ship due to the enormous amount of soldiers. It was going to be a long and hard battle. The water we had to walk through to set up our camps was muddy and clumpy I was hoping I don’t get trench foot. Me, as the leader leaded on where we have to set up our camps. We set up our tents around the gruesome field of dead, yellow, sun dried grass next to the sandy rough hills. Rain had just started sprinkling and the next minute, hailing, it lit out our fire along with a deathlike thunderstorm. The dogs started howling under the glowing half-moon that gave us the only light left. I knew the next day only brought frightful visions of what will come to us tomorrow….…

On October 2nd, 2015, Wasilla High School and Palmer High School have a football Potato Bowl game. This is the last football game of the year and its the rivalry game. Anyways that day I was with a couple of my friends and streaking got brought into conversation. And one of them suggested I did it at the potato bowl, and I agreed. So I called a couple of people and asked if they wanted to do it. One Palmer boy and one Colony boy said that they would do it with me, so I went to the store and bought red, blue, and green and white paint. The plan was to paint all of our bodies our school colors, with a white W, P and C on the all of our chests. As the night got later and time got closer to doing it, both of the boys chickened out. Everyone after that started saying I wasn't gonna do it, and doubting me. Im the type of person who doesn't like getting told to do, and when kids are telling me Im not gonna do something, I have to. Im a daredevil. So you can probably guess what I did that night.…

I was right at the 5 yard line when the girl on the other team tackle me right to the side line we a got up she patted my shoulder pads and said,” nice run dude you were close but i got you,” all of my team ran to me and were cheering so loud the other team got mad but i did not care it was a home game at the huntley high school. I realized that you should never like celebrate too early or you might not get anywhere and you should all have good sportsmanship to any and any one because you never know what will happen to the person that you did not give the respect to might do. Also it really does not matter if you win or lose what matters is that you have fun i say that because the other team were like mad sad and some were even crying because that could be their last game and disappointed in there self you can just see it in there eyes and their actions they they were kicking the turf and tackling each other because they did not make it to the playoffs i ran over there to break it up and i told them it does not matter if you win or lose what matters is that you have fun and they said,” yay that's what it's really about thanks,’’ and i ran back to my team and i broke us…

It was a fun game to watch, as we all thought about us playing on that court the next day. It was finally game day, and we had to play Stewartville, 2nd place from Minnesota. They were athletic, but we ended up winning the close match. Our next rival was the Bismark Thunder, 1st in North Dakota and last year's national champions. We were nervous since the were taller, stronger, faster, and just better than us. We lost to them, but we were fired up to play for 3rd place. The team headed over to the Target Center for the 3rd place game. Playing there was so neat, being under the lights, having them announce your name, and just being with the tam. We played Grafton, who placed 2nd at state in North Dakota. They looked like us, athletically, so we weren’t too worried. We came out with a bang, ready to play. Darby and Ellie pushed it up the court on fast breaks, giving us the early lead. Rilee and I played great defense on the post, as well as Marlee on the wing. Jenny came in and scored a couple before halftime. We were tied 17-17 at the half, and we knew we would have to work even harder. Halftime was over, and we played our hearts out the rest of the game. Mavis and Paige played great offensively, as well as Taylor on defense. We beat Grafton, 36-34, with Darby’s 1:00 left, 2-point shot. We were so happy that we had pulled off that win! We spent the next hour at the…

This time last year I was a senior at the University of Illinois and it was our Homecoming. This meant we all ran around looking for an occasion to be a college student, interpret that however you may like. I was given the wonderful opportunity to serve on the 2015 Homecoming Court with 19 other outstanding seniors selected based on their campus involvement, merit and community service. I was in a parade, got to wear a cool sash and was in the halftime of the football game. But this wasn't nearly as eventful as how this homecoming weekend ended.…

Tonight is bitter sweet for me…bitter because my basketball career is coming to end and it really is hard to say goodbye to something you truly depended on through tough times and good times. Basketball has always been for them as well as my teammates and my coaches…its just hard to say goodbye. The sweet part is that this season isn’t over yet! I would like to thank a few people tonight. First off, I would like to thank God for giving me this opportunity to play basketball and allowing me to play with a torn P.C.L. in my left leg because most people would have to go through surgery or be enable to do sports in general. Words can’t describe how thankful I am for God giving me another chance to play this sport without any surgery. Secondly I would like to thank my dad for getting me into basketball. After a long day at work, you still managed to get me to practices and games. Not only that, I appreciate spending all of your summer weekends for majority of my life traveling everywhere for hundreds of tournaments. I know we both have had our differences and we both don’t always see eye to eye especially when you try to be my coach but you have always believed in me when I felt like nobody did and for that I’m more than thankful. But as I’ve grown, I’ve realized you just wanted to see me succeed and be the best that I can be. A huge, special thank you will definitely be for our coaches. Coach Clayton aka Teacon, you are a second father figure in my life and I’m so blessed that I have gotten the chance to be coached by you since the 4th grade on the court and off. You always believed in us more than anyone else, and you have shown more dedication than anyone I know when it comes around to coaching on the basketball court. Coach Eddie, I don’t know where we would all be if we didn’t have you to condition us. Coach Walker, thank you for always taking stats with my dad and having gum on you during the games! Also thank you to the fans (aka parents) that come out and…

Happy with the Turnout “Sometimes what you want isn’t always what you get, but in the end what you get is so much better than what you wanted.” From the time I was a little girl I had always desired to be the Winnfield Senior High School Cheer Captain.
