Homeless Bird Essay In this story, Homeless Bird, by Gloria Whelan, the main character, Koly, lives in a small village in India. The problem she faces is that her husband dies. Then, her father-in-law dies. Koly’s sass is very rude to her. She abandoned Koly in the city with only 47 rupees. At first, Koly is honorable and sad, but in the end she becomes happy In the beginning of the story, Koly is honorable. For example, She didn't trust the family she was getting married to but, “To refuse to go through marriage would bring dishonor to my family” (pg 14). Koly feels that the Mehtas are not being honest with her. When she first arrived the first thing the Mehtas said to her family was, “You have brought the dowery, sir?” During the wedding
