Homeostatic Imbalances
Homeostasis is extremely important for proper functioning of all the human body systems. When our body is not able to regulate temperature all our body functions will fail to work. Even the enzymes need a specific constant temperature to work at their optimum level. At higher temperatures the enzymes will stop working. (Steadyheatlh, 2004)
Dialysis is the artificial process of getting rid of waste (diffusion) and unwanted water from the blood. This process is naturally done by our kidneys. Some people, however, may have failed or damaged kidneys which cannot carry out the function properly, they may need dialysis. (Ungar, 2012) Patients with renal failure experience a lot of imbalances while receiving dialysis. Electrolyte imbalances are the most common, usually presenting with hyperkalemia. This happens when the amount of calcium is more than the kidneys can excrete. Arrhythmias may also occur during dialysis. It too causes an imbalance of electrolytes or changes in acid-base homeostasis. Severe cramping, muscle spasms, and low blood pressure are some complications experienced from dialysis. This happens because of the removal of increased volume of fluids. Net filtration pressure is damaged as a result of increased permeability of the membrane. This too causes a homeostatic imbalance. Urinary incontinence and retention, thrombosis, and sleeping problems may all occur from the use of dialysis. (Steadyheatlh, 2004)
Other homeostatic imbalance health problems like dehydration, hypertension, diabetes, hypoglycemia, hyperglycemia, can arise. Homeostasis is extremely important for proper functioning of all the human body systems. When our body is not able to regulate temperature all our body functions will fail to work. Even the enzymes need a specific constant temperature to work at their optimum level. At higher temperatures the enzymes will stop working. Eventually, it can cause death. Proper exercise, a well-balanced diet, and adequate rest can

    Hypertension is the term used to describe high blood pressure. Blood pressure is a measurement of the force against the walls of your arteries as your heart pumps blood through your body. Blood pressure readings are usually given as two numbers -- for example, 120 over 80 (written as 120/80 mmHg). One or both of these numbers can be too high. The top number is called the systolic blood pressure, which is the force of blood in the arteries as the heart beats, and the bottom number is called the diastolic blood pressure which is the force of blood in the arteries as the heart relaxes between beats. When you blood pressure is a normal it’s lower than 120/80 mmHg most of the time. High blood pressure (hypertension) which is what you have is when the reading is at least 140/90 or higher. One negative feedback system that helps regulate in blood pressure with negative feedback system( homeostatic imbalance) is when the heart beats faster or harder, blood pressure increases. If a stimulus causes blood pressure to rise the following sequence of events occurs. Baroreceptors (the receptors) pressure-sensitive nerve cells located in the walls of certain blood vessel, detect the higher pressure. The baroreceptors send nerve impulses (input) to the brain (control center). The brain nerve impulses (output) to the heart and blood vessels (the effectors). Heart rate decreases and blood vessels dilate (widen), which cause blood pressure to decrease (response). The organ systems involved are the heart which creates one force as it pumps blood into the arteries and through the circulatory system. The other force comes from the arteries resisting the blood flow. Homeostatic regulation of blood pressure by a negative feedback system the response is fed back into the system, and the system continues to lower blood pressure until there is a return to normal blood pressure (homeostasis).     Dialysis keeps your body in balance by removing waste, salt, and extra water. It also helps control blood pressure, keeping a safe level of chemicals in the blood, such as potassium, sodium, and bicarbonate. There are two different types of dialysis treatment options hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis. Hemodialysis which is what I do, an artificial kidney called hemodialyzer is used to remove waste and fluid. The treatment involves circulating the patient's blood outside of the body through a dialysis circuit. The patient’s blood leaves and enters the body through two needles inserted into the patient’s vein called an access site. Once the patient’s blood is inside the dialyzer, excess fluids and toxins are pulled out of the bloodstream. Specially trained nurses and dialysis technicians supervise and monitor patients during treatment. Dialysis does some of the work of healthy kidneys, but it does not cure your kidney disease.
