Homeschooling essay

In the modern world, education plays an important role in people’s lives. Quality education gives a great number of opportunities to young people and helps them succeed in their career. While some parents send their children to public or private schools, others decide to educate them at home. Benefits and drawbacks of home education will be analyzed before a reasoned conclusion is found.
To begin with, children can benefit from home education as they would get as much attention as needed. To illustrate, a teaching parent caters to the individual needs of his student, focusing on the material until the child understands it completely. Furthermore, children feel more comfortable with their parents comparing to school teachers. For instance, a shy child would be afraid to tell a teacher that he doesn’t understand the topic, while he would admit it to his parents. As can be seen from these examples home schooling could be advantageous for some children.
On the other hand, there are some considerable disadvantages of home education. First of all a child would not have an experience of working in a team and could lack contact with other children. Secondly, a child could grow antisocial as he would not have enough experience of communication with his peers. Finally, most homeschooling parents are not professional teachers. Thus, they may not be able to educate their children properly. As an illustration, they may lack knowledge on some school subjects or psychology skills. These examples clearly show that home education may be not a good idea.
After analyzing both sides of home schooling, I believe that while this way of education can be beneficial for some, it would be better for most children to attend a regular school as home-educated child may have social and academic problems in the future. It is thus recommended for parent who wish to educate their children at home to consider advantages and disadvantages of this method prior to making a decision.
