Homework: useful or harmful?

How many of you have felt that homework appear to be the most horrible monster for your kids? It´s a fact that homework are meant to teach the students and make them practice what they learn in school, but are they really teaching them or just making their childhood miserable? This is a situation that daily affects students all around the world and it´s making parents very worried about their children´s future. Homework is consider a very important activity to always keep a fresh memory of what they´re taught, but it´s also taking the most of their free time to live up to new things. It´s teachers concern to know how to apply a certainly system to make students to love what they are learning and make them interested for their growth.
As we all know, childhood is the most important stage of life for all children, because they absorb all kinds of things, which they´ll use later to defend themselves. That´s why it´s really important for students to keep a healthy and balance life rhythm, in that way they´ll enjoy their childhood and make it the best of it. Homework plays a relevant part in this stage, because sometimes teachers don´t know how to manage their teaching, so homework becomes a very stressful chore for students. Instead of being a 30 minutes day activity, it starts to become a lifetime nightmare, because students start to become obsessed for grades instead of doing it because they want to learn. Inundating children with hours of homework each night is detrimental, the research suggests, while an hour or two per week usually doesn't impact test scores one way or the other. However, homework only bolsters students' academic performance during their last three years of grade school.
The truth is most districts or schools have a homework policy and schools feel obligated to give homework because they have a policy that says they give homework. There is no research that proves that homework is beneficial. Many studies have been conducted over the last 50 years and not one piece of research can definitively say that homework improves achievement, test scores or that homework was even beneficial. These results were consistent in both elementary and high school levels. Homework should have an actual purpose and there are developmentally appropriate amounts of times for their grade level. That also means that not every single child is ready for that developmental stage. As a parent, you will need to communicate with teacher about what is happening at home in the homework department. Homework should also be a form of communication between the classroom, the student and the parent. As a parent, you are seeing examples of what the students are working on and how your child is doing the work. If the homework your child is bringing home is new material, this is not appropriate homework.
