Homosexuality and Same-sex Marriage Supporter

Should Gay Marriage be Legalized? Homosexuality is a sexual preference and everyone should be entitled to their own personal preference. Some people believe they are born homosexual, however according to Sigmund Freud’s basic theory of homosexuality, everyone is born bisexual and later become either homosexual or heterosexual as a result of their experiences (Facts about homosexuality and mental health). No matter the sexual preference, just like heterosexuals, homosexuals fall in love and want to get married. Life is all about being happy. Happiness, at one point in life or another, includes finding ones soul mate. In my opinion, everyone hopes to marry their soul mate at least once in their lifetime. Marriage has always been defined as the formal union between a man and a woman. It has been redefined in some dictionaries as two people that love each other making their relationship public and permanent. Notice the gender in the relationship has been removed. In the late 1980s the support for gay marriage was very low. As of 2010, the support for same-sex marriage has increased, and the number for those who oppose same-sex marriage has decreased (Thompson). My sister and best friend are both lesbians. They are my motivation. When they both came out about their sexual orientation, I didn’t know how to feel. I’ve always been taught that what the Bible says goes, but things have happened that have made me look at equality over religious views. Not everyone is religious, but everyone is born equal. The more I thought about it, the more it came clear to me that in the Bible it states that homosexuality is a sin, but it doesn’t say that supporting equality is a sin. Since then, I have been a same-sex marriage supporter. Since the 1960’s homosexual activist have been trying to promote the right for gays to marry. It is 2013 and thirteen states have legalized same-sex marriages (Flaherty). Fifty three percent of the American people support same-sex marriages. The
