At my place of employment, which is also my clinical site, our patient bill of rights states that patients have the right to "clear information about [their] health status, treatment and care, benefits, risks, and caregivers" and also the right to "decisions about care, treatment, services, and discharge" (Yale-New Haven Hospital, 2017). Withholding a terminal diagnosis is violating a patient's rights. Although, in certain cultures this is forbidden, we must uphold ethical standards of care.
