One quality that is very important for an honor council member is to be alert and have good listening skills. These are good qualities to have because you have to listen to the whole story well to discover the truth. The second quality that is important for an honor council member to have is confidentiality. Confidentiality is an important quality to have because an honor council member has to keep all hearings confidential and tell no one else about them. Another reason that confidentiality is important is because the person that had to go to a hearing most likely does not want anyone to know that they had to go to honor council. Knowledge of the school’s honor code and discipline policy is a very good quality of an honor council member because…

Being a member in National Honor Society implies that you are a person of great character. One of the most important qualities that you can possess is leadership. Honesty is one of the key factors to being a good leader. You must be honest towards everyone, and in everything that you do. If a leader wasn't honest, then no one would trust them. And if they weren't trustworthy then who would want to follow their lead? Leadership also requires that you have an optimistic attitude about everything. You have to take control, and look for the best in every situation. No one wants to follow someone who is always in a bad mood, and always looks for something to complain about.…

“The hardest obstacle to overcome in any leadership position is getting past the apathy to get people involved in the process to get things done…The greatest enemy to accomplishment is apathy” (Burke). National Honor Society upholds its members to have 4 important values. These being scholarship, character, leadership, and service. Leadership, in my opinion, is a very important aspect in National Honors Society because you are expected to be a role model by positively inspiring people around you. This quote stuck out because it says that inspiring people is a way to overcome obstacles in leadership. If you inspire people and make them get rid of their apathy, you can overcome stalling in the process and reach accomplishment.…

If accepted, I intend to uphold the leadership aspect of the National Honor Society by contributing in meaningful ways to my community. I feel as though I have created forward momentum already by getting out in my community. This is shown through my time involved in 4-H, the leadership positions I held within it (President and Secretary), and the volunteer initiatives I have led in the past. In my opinion, a leader also needs the ability to be open-minded and independent; qualities I think are ingrained in myself. National Honor Society continues to shape me into an independent, self-sufficient young adult. The four pillars play an important role in my life no matter where I am. For example, whether I’m at work, in school, or on the basketball court, scholarship, service, leadership, and character transform me into a compassionate leader. Furthermore, National Honor Society will also continue to lead me through the rest of my life. As I head off to college, I will always have the traditional values of the four pillars to lean on. While studying in the field of nursing, I can take what I learned and apply it to my everyday life, even when helping others. Hopefully if I am successful, my leadership will rub off on others, transforming their lives as I…
