Games such as Magic Sharing Circles, The Feeling Treasure Box, Silent Candle Walk and the Silent Game are some of the activities which can be used in the classroom to support peace. To continually support children in peace education it is recommended provide a peace shelf where children where observe objects such as peace stones, pictures, books about peace, stuffed animals the peace rose and peace vocabulary which symbolize peace.
Sonnie McFarland in her book, Honoring The Light Of The Child talked about the Flower of Peace Model. She identified six basic elements of The Flower of Peace Model which must be modeled for children. These are the spirit of love, basic needs and human rights, self - awareness, community awareness, cultural awareness and environmental awareness. (McFarland 2004 pg. 7) All six elements are embedded in the Montessori’s philosophy and by extension the Montessori’s curriculum.
It is essential to provide children with the tools they need to independently resolve conflicts and to become lifelong peacemakers. These tools will help them to become stewards of environment and advocated for world peace. Dr. Montessori, an advocate for peace, stated that education is the best weapon for
