Hood and Harvey are both thieves in some sort. Hood steals time and souls of kids.When Harvey and Hood met, Harvey was very mad about that Hood steals time from everyone who enter. This happened after he saw his mom and dad. Harvey said to Hood, “You stole thirty years of time with my mom and dad from me!" Harvey said. "If I stay here you'll steal a lot more.“ (97). Hood doesn’t have a heart. He doesn’t care about anything but himself, so he steals souls from kids.These happened when Harvey first met Jive. Barker foreshadowed the events to come up. Jive was relating to Hood when he said,“"There are those who'd disagree," Jive said darkly. "Those who'd say that all the great powers in the world are bloodsuckers and soul-stealers at heart. And we must serve them. All of us. Serve them to our dying day" “ (49). Barker uses foreshadowing to let us know something is up. He uses Jive to do that. Harvey realizes later that Hood sucks out souls. Harvey has a heart, he is caring for people, he experiences love. When Harvey returns back to the real world, he sees Lulu again. Barker narrates about Harvey, “But Harvey knew that face better than any on earth. It was the first face he ever loved.”(66) In this first sentence, he is showing us it’s Lulu. The second sentence adds to the first one. This text shows that Harvey has a heart, and that he cares. This is the exact opposite from Hood. This shows that they are very different.
