Hope Is A Good Thing With Feathers By Emily Dickinson

The meaning of hope or even false hope, is a good thing to us humans to feel, it helps us get through rough times, and pushes us move forward. Hope can be explained in hundreds different ways, some may say it’s a good thing to have in your soul, but others might say it’s not good, it could lead you to something bad. Emily Dickinson the author of both poems “Hope is a thing with feathers” mentions hope being a good thing to have in your soul, but “Hope is a subtle glutton” talks about hope being a glutton, meaning greedy eater. Dickinson’s poems somehow connects with Cormac McCarthy the author of the novel “The Road” that’s about a father and his son who have little hope that they would live another day. Hope can be explained a good or bad thing, but if you just a small amount of hope, you pushes yourself in a good direction, and you’ll make it through rough times.
In Emily Dickinson’s poem “Hope is a thing with feathers” is about hope being like a small song bird, and it’s the sweetest when times get rough, hope may go away, but no matter what happens, it would always return. That poem connects to a novel named “The Road” the author being Cormac McCarthy, where the father and son talk about “...carrying the fire...” (___), the father explaining it what moves them forward, and keep the two of them alive. While looking in a house, they went into the basement that was filled with human bodies, later they found a hatch in the ground, the boy was scared to open it up, the dad said “we must have hope, and see what is inside that”, inside the bunker was tons of untouched cans of food.
