Sometimes, one is apt to doubt that if man is in any way different from wild animals. Ever since two men appeared on the earth, they have been quarrelling with each other. According to WEB Yeats, men fight with each other like weasels in a ditch, why is it so?
The earliest wars were fought with bows and arrows. Later man began to use swords, spears and daggers. But in modern times, man has invented and amassed heaps of weapons of mass destruction. There are the nuclear weapons of numerous kinds, rockets, missiles, sub-marines, poisonous chemical and bacterial weapons. It is difficult to believe that man has become more civilized in any way.
The modern century has witnessed two great world wars. Man still remembers the catastrophic destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in the twinkling of an eye. But it is a pity man has not learnt much from this diabolical devastation. After the Vietnam War there has been terrible Gulf War.
Whereas in the olden wars, only the kings and their armies were affected, in modern wars the civilians have to bear the brunt of destruction. Green, waving crops are completely destroyed; the lofty sky-scrapers are razed to the ground in the twinkling of an eye. The bombs and guns do not spare even the hospitals and religious places. The schools, colleges, factories and hospitals are closed. The loss caused to industry, commerce and agriculture is tremendous. The prices are sky-rocketed. There is shortage of every commodity. The poor are doubly hit – on the one hand, they get no employment and on the other they cannot afford to purchase commodities at high rates. The most distressing condition is that of women who lose husbands and children who lose their fathers
War is the result of greed, lust for power and chauvinism. Man should learn how to live in peace with his neighbors. To redress grievances of different nations, we have the United Nations. The latter should be given more powers to become more effective in ensuring world peace. The world government maybe an appropriate answer to the question of war.

The way war has been fought has drastically changed over time, the tools used to fight it even more so. World War One was the first “modern war” in regards to weapons. One reason is this is the first war in which many things we consider modern war instruments were used. Remarque displays one of the most deadly of these new tools of mass destruction when het states “But that interests us less than what we hear of the new flame-thrower.” (105) The flamethrower was a new weapon used in World War One, and possible one of the most deadly. This weapon was the cause of countless deaths in the war and did so very unforgivingly, ultimately decimating bodies. Another devastating weapon that changed warfare into what we know today was the use of “…mines, gas, tanks, machine-guns…” (132). These are all weapons used to kill solders in another uniform, the enemy. These brutal weapons caused some of the most devastating deaths. Land mines would blow people to pieces if stepped on and making them physically not recognizable. Gas was one of the most gruesome weapons created in world war one. Gas would burn the soldier’s insides till he died…

War brings death and destruction, merciless slaughter and butchery, disease and starvation, poverty and ruin in its wake. Although war may not always be the first answer or the most beneficial, it is an inescapable evil because war has brought the world peace and prosperity while banding people together to fight for a cause. It leads to national growth and solves domestic problems between countries; Injustice and tyranny can be quelled as the aftereffect of war. On the contrary, war includes loss of human life, spreads of diseases, and induces a feeling of anxiety and dismay among communities. The brutal sacrifices that innocent people undergo may not be worth the outcome.…

Preceding the atomic bombs and subsequent surrender of Japan, World War I had devastated major nations like never before. Horrors caused by mankind were more abundant than in any time period known. The battles did eventually end, but just under 21 years later another war would eclipse the destruction caused by World War I, with World War II causing at least four times the amount of death according to Diffen. Because of that, President Truman and the rest of mankind probably feared something worse following soon. Fortunately, though, after these terrible wars were concluded by the surrender of Japan and therefore the atomic bomb, there has not been an escalation of destruction and annihilation.…

WWII is still the most horrific war in the history of human existence. With over 50 million dead in just 6 short years, every single chapter of the war has been eternally marked in world history. Two particular incidents that will last over the years would be the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945. Now being considered in hindsight, the nuclear attacks have become very controversial topics. In my personal opinion, I believe that the bombings were absolutely atrocious, but I also think that the bombings were needed for WWII to truly end.…

The idea of war brings up many questions about life and death, suffering, and consequences. While many people may see war as something that affects people as a whole, such as nations or a persecuted group, war further impacts every individual, whether or not they are directly involved. War limits freedoms and individualism, and in most cases people find themselves with less rights than during peacetime. People base their choices not on what they feel, and more on what they have to do to survive. Soldiers and civilians alike are influenced by war in different ways, however, these tie together when the overall effects of war are examined.…

Particular events have such broad and long-lasting ramifications for our society that they shake the very pillars upon which our world is built. The dropping of the atomic bomb upon Hiroshima and Nagasaki was one such event. The very foundations of our society – traditional philosophical concepts such as totalising metanarratives, absolute truth and the purposefulness and rationality of life – were shaken by contestation fuelled by the uncertainty that was generated by the absolute destructive power of the atomic bomb. The uncertainty generated by this cataclysmic event also gave rise to the aggression, paranoia and irrationality that drove the Cold War – a conflict which rocked the foundations of our world by threatening it’s annihilation in a nuclear apocalypse.…

Due to all the bombs being dropped many people were forced to move out of their homes. This caused a lot of hardship for the civilians because people had to move house due to the “ghastly [air] raids” source 2 says. Source 2 also tells us that “For amidst such suffering and hardship…Everyone seems intent only on patching roofs, propping up walls, cooking fried potatoes on an upturned electric iron” this source tells us that life would have been very hard for the civilians. We know that this would be true because source 1 shows us that houses have fallen down and people are moving out because it is very unsafe to live where they are. Source 4 also tells us a little bit of how hard it was for the civilians in London, it shows a German man dropping bombs on London but it also shows that it did not affect them. Even though a lot of deaths occurred there was lots of buildings destroyed, they still stood strong, this doesn’t mean it wasn’t hard for the civilians though. Warfare did cause a lot a hardship for civilians.…

War is a very controversial topic for many people. Depending on the person’s outlook on the war, it can be depicted as something good or bad. War brings destruction wherever it goes, whether it is on a place or the people, and it ultimately is inevitable. War also protects a country from having further destruction and keeps the people at home safe from any danger. As a person can see in many recordings of war, there are many comparisons and contrasts that are expressed through soldiers, veterans, and civilians. Some comparisons seen in many of the testimonies given by effected people are dehumanization, dislocation, and alienation; but they also have contrasts that can be seen through nationalism, technological advancements, and the coming home for many…
