Information System is an integrated set of components for collecting, storing, processing, and communicating information. Business firms, other organizations, and individuals in contemporary society rely on information systems to manage their operations, compete in the marketplace, supply services, and augment personal lives. Its basis is the interaction between the user and the analyst. It is an open system that allows the inputs and facilitates the interaction with the user. It can be defined as a set of devices, procedures and operating systems designed around the user to produce information and communicate it to the user for planning, control and performance. It deals with the development, use and management of an organization's Information Technology infrastructure.
Management Information System (MIS) is an organized approach to the study of the information needs of an organization’s management at every level in making operational, tactical, and strategic decisions. Transaction Processing System automates the routine, day-to-day record-keeping tasks in an organization. It is also known as Operational Systems.
